Game 1

kt Rolster continued their dominance in the Group Stage with another decisive win, this time over MAD Team. Son “Ucal” Woo-hyeon notched a game-high 6 kills, using his Swain to neutralize Chen “Uniboy” Chang-Chu’s Lissandra. Go “Score” Dong-bin took advantage of Taliyah’s mobility and explosive damage to take over the map, and was able to help his team secure both the lead in lanes as well as the majority of  objectives. Score and Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu each died only once, and each time KT were able to trade at least 4 kills for it. A resounding win for the Korean side in just over 26 minutes.

Game 2

EDG maintained the overall LPL undefeated record so far as they easily took down Team Liquid. After some early trades back and forth, EDG won a team fight in the dragon pit and didn’t look back. They took control of the map, and killed the Baron along with a clean Ace at 22 minutes. The game was over 5 minutes later. Lee “Scout” Ye-chan went 4/0/11 on Azir to dominate the mid lane. Neither Jung “Impact” Eon-yeong or Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng recorded any kills for Team Liquid this match, which is something they will have to rectify if they hope to make it out of Groups.

Game 3

In the battle for first place in Group D, Song “Rookie” Eui-jin  and Rasmus “Caps” Winther faced off in the Mid Lane. While many touted this as a must-see match up, the game turned one-sided pretty quickly. Executing impressive early teamwork, IG put Martin “Rekkles” Larsson at a disadvantage with two early deaths, and then continued to feast on Zdravets “Hylissang” Iliev Galabov for the rest of the game. Rookie easily won the Mid Lane match up, bullying Swain with his Syndra. All hopes of a FNC comeback were crushed as Yu “JackeyLove” Wen-Bo got a quadra kill around the Baron Pit and Rookie picked up the Ace, sealing Fnatic’s fate.

Game 4

In their second game of Worlds 2018, 100 Thieves looked like a completely different team than they did on Day 1. They came out strong, netting both First Blood and First Tower before 8 minutes. G-Rex fought back, winning some mid-game team fights, but could only last so long. Though often criticized, the rookie ADC for 100T, Richard “Rikara” Samuel Oh, went 9/0/9 and played extremely well. Matched with consistent hooks from Zaqueri “aphromoo” Black, 100T followed their Bot Lane to Victory.

Game 5

Game 5 ended up as many expected, with RNG tallying another win. However, it was much closer than expected, and Vitality put up a good fight. Though usually an explosive early game team, VIT played patiently against the undefeated RNG. They kept the gold deficit to less than 2k until the 23rd minute, when a team fight went RNG’s way and allowed them to take Baron. This was the advantage that they needed, and from there RNG steadily pushed for the win. Jian “Uzi” Zi-Hao looked deadly once again, leading the game with 6 kills.

Game 6

In the last game of the day, Gen G defeated Cloud9 , as they both moved to a record of 1-2. With each team notching a kill on the opposing Mid Laner before 2 minutes, it looked like it might be a fast paced, kill-filled game. This was far from the truth, however, and the game was fairly uneventful until it broke wide open around 20 minutes. In a span of 2 minutes, Gen G picked up Baron, a Dragon, and a couple kills. The remainder of the game was a steamroll over Cloud9, and the game was over before 25 minutes.
