Coming into the 2019 Spring Split a lot of people doubted TeamSoloMid’s roster changes and all of the offseason moves. There has been a lot of speculations that this is the worst roster in TSM’s history. In week one, TSM proved thier roster has a lot of potential.
Game 1
No one expected BrokenBlade to have an amazing debut in his first LCS game and often said he would be the question mark on this roster. He was dominant in the lane matchups even when falling behind. He was always where his team needed him and he continued to help TSM make plays around the map. During this game BrokenBlade had more impact than any player on 100 Thieves.
Akaadian had one of the best showings in his career as a part of TSM. His aggressive playstyle allowed him to effectively expand the leads around the map while also grabbing objectives. The only questionable play was when he decided to extend past the entire 100 Thieves team to kill Bang. TSM could have closed out the game much faster if he had succeeded in killing Bang.
In the mid lane, Bjergsen completely countered Huhi and was able to keep everyone on TSM alive while playing on one of his signature picks, Zilean. His ultimate was always on the right teammate and it felt like there was no cooldown for it.
Early game, Zven, and Smoothie chose to farm because they saw their team was winning everywhere else. Smoothie still made roams and assisted his team when needed. Because of this Zven leveled up quickly through solo exp whenever Smoothie roamed and he was also able to come online later in the game.
Eventually, Zven made it easy to knock down turrets all around the map and continued to extend the lead of TSM. This was by far one of the best performances he had in a while with TSM.
Game 2
TSM started the game off with a major lead but it immediately turned in Clutch’s favor. TSM became stagnant were unable to make any plays as they sieged the midlane.
BrokenBlade still established dominance against one of the best top laners in the LCS, Huni. He started the game with a solo kill onto Huni and continued to dominate him with two more kills in lane. Unfortuantely his early performance alone was not enough to carry his team to victory.
As Clutch Gaming stopped giving TSM opportunities the game began to slow down.
Bjergsen was unable to have an impact on the mid lane because of how passive Damonte played. He started to roam which lead to Damonte being able to scale and easily carry the game. His Urgot pick was not the right pick into this matchup especially because he couldn’t apply pressure.
Zven and Smoothie were pushed in most of the game by Piglet and Vulcan but they played more passively because of how much their top laner had established a lead. Smoothie didn’t have the ability to make any plays on the Thresh pick. Zven couldn’t deal out enough damage to kill anyone on Clutch which they noticed and it allowed them to close out the game.
Even though they struggled to find ways to extend their leads they still have a lot of time to improve and become stronger. If they work on being more proactive then this team can reclaim the number one spot in North America once again.
