League of Legends: Riot’s New Years Resolutions

“New year, new me!” A classic saying around the beginning of January as people attempt to follow through with their New Year’s resolutions. But for those are able to follow through with it, they normally come out of it as a better person. With that being said, in the hopes of improvement, what are some resolutions that Riot should have going into 2019 for a better game?

Save the Crit ADCs

With the constant patches Riot continues to release one distinct group of champions has slowly been left behind. Through big patches like the marksman rework, ADCs that rely on a crit item path has slowly been left behind as on-hit ADCs and Mages (or just anything else really) began to take over the position. While ADCs in general have felt fairly weak recently, it’ll definitely take a lot more to fix the issues surrounding crit ADCs. A key reason behind this issue is the slow ramp up that these champions have in a game that has only become faster and faster. With the need to build Stormrazor into an upgraded Zeal item before you’re able to build Infinity Edge, crit ADCs will usually lack any significant damage through a large portion of the game.

While the future is looking somewhat bright with Riot acknowledging the weakness of these ADCs and their itemization in general, the verdict is still out there as to whether these ADCs will be viable any time soon. So far, the small buffs are a decent start, but not enough. Whether it’s a new crit item or some small buffs to currently existing AD items, the road to viability is still a long one for crit ADCs.

Diversify the Jungle with Some AP

Will we see AP Junglers make a return anytime soon?

No matter how diverse the champion pool for junglers become, one area that is always lacking is options for AP junglers. With the only viable AP junglers in recent memory being Gragas, Nidalee and Taliyah. A huge reason for the lack of viable AP junglers has been their jungle item, Runic Echoes. The decision to remove the bonus movement speed the item provided in exchange for cooldown reduction and mana was not enough to bring junglers like Fiddlesticks back into the fold. However, the change did ended up bumping junglers like Evelynn and Elise down the tier list.

Luckily, this issue has a much easier solution when compared with the crit ADC issue. Some small buffs to AP junglers or reverts to previous nerfs could see them slowly but surely return to relevance. Ultimately, a return of more viable AP junglers will only increase the strategic possibilities in drafts.

Keep Vision Control as Is

Will Riot make more changes to Vision Control? (Hopefully not!)

A notable trend in Riot’s pre-season patches throughout the years has been a slow and steady decline in vision control. While some changes were a good change for the game like the 3 ward limit to make vision control a team effort, more often than not, it was an unneeded nerf to vision control. While recent nerfs has been small (maximum amount of controls wards in your inventory dropped from three to two), it just seems pointless and questionable.

So this coming season Riot, please just keep vision control as it is. Vision control is in a fairly healthy spot at the moment, any additional nerfs to it may become a bit too much.

Conclusion

2019 will be an exciting year of League of Legends. While the game is not perfect, it feels like it’s a few patches away from being in a good place. While not every new champ or patch is perfect, Riot has been doing a fairly solid job of balancing the game. Will they be able to complete these New Year’s resolutions, though? Let’s find out in 2020!
