Blue skies, warm weather in Southern California, its the first day of Spring split and you can feel a certain energy in the air. Teams looking to prove themselves worthy of being the top four andindividual players looking to stomp their former teams as the road to Spring finals in St. Louis begins.
I caught up with Matthew “Deftly” Chen, ADC for Golden Guardians to talk about today’s game.
J: Deftly, how are you feeling about today’s game performance?
D: “Today’s loss doesn’t feel that bad, we made some mistakes that didn’t make it in scrims. This isn’t the level we usually perform to and we expect a lot out of ourselves, losing sucks but at the end of the day its just one game of the regular season and our aspirations are much higher than that.”
J: How does it feel to have new team members? You have Olleh from Team Liquid, Hauntzer from TSM, and Froggen coming from his year break.
D: “Honestly, its been fabulous. Everything has been going real smoothly, our scrims have looked great, unlike our stage games that’s for sure. Not only are they fantastic players, they’re great teammates and friends to have on a day to day basis, and before I didn’t really feel the same way and we’re able to talk about the hard stuff together, go out and spend time together as good friends and not only just good teammates.”
J: That’s very good to hear, the team having a strong bond in and out of the game, makes life more comfortable knowing you have someone you can truly trust.
J: There’s been a lot of talk but folks are saying Golden Guardians is a top four team, would you agree?
D: “Yeah, I definitely think we’re gonna be top three this split, we just need to iron out some kinks but we’re all very confident on everyone’s ability on this team to perform at a high level, so I’m sure in our future games we’ll patch up our holes and communications.”
J: You have a new support, Olleh previously from Team Liquid, how comfortable do you feel to have a back to back champion by your side?
D: “I can’t even put it in words, for how great it is to have a chance to play with Olleh, he’s taught me so much ever since we started playing together in December and I feel like I’ve improved a tremendous amount. I used to be a huge Doublelift fan and Olleh gives me a few pointers on what Doublelift used to do so I’m getting some secrets and it helps me improve my game. Olleh always pushes me to be better, to be the best that I can be and he wants me to be the best AD in NA.”
J: As well as you should, you’ve come quite away and with Olleh’s help you’ll blossom into quite the ADC.
Golden Guardians will be playing the late game on day two against Echo Fox at 7pm est or 4pm pst. You can watch them on Twitch or you can get your in-game rewards for watching them on the League of Legends website.
