LCK Summer Week 6 Power Rankings

After another exciting week of action, the playoff picture for the LCK continues to be as chaotic as ever. With every playoff spot still up for grabs, which team stepped up this week? As always, if you missed last week’s power rankings you can find them here!

10.Jin Air Green Wings (-)

Current record: 0-12
0-2 vs SK Telecom T1
0-2 vs Afreeca Freecs

With another 0-2 week Jin Air continue to sit at the bottom of the standings. However, the season isn’t over yet with six games remaining for Jin Air. With those six games it’s becoming more and more unlikely the team finds a win at all this split. With that being said, they still have their matches against KT Rolster and Hanwha Life Esports remaining so there is still a chance. See you in relegations Jin Air, let’s see if you can survive it a second time.

9.Hanwha Life Esports (-)

Current record: 2-10
1-2 vs Kingzone DragonX
1-2 vs SANDBOX Gaming

Taking sole possession of the final relegation spot is Hanwha after another 0-2 week. While the team has looked better this week, it may be a case of too little too late. However, despite being one game behind KT they should still be able to avoid relegations if they continue to make small improvements. Along with that, Hanwha still has their final match against both KT and Jin Air ahead of them which are must-wins if the Hanwha wants any chance at avoiding relegations. As the split winds down Hanwha can still avoid relegations, but it will rely on their own performance. Will they succeed or fall short?

8.KT Rolster (-)

Current record: 3-8
2-1 vs Afreeca Freecs

This is not a drill, KT managed to win another series in the LCK and are now out of potential relegation for the time being. With an injection of young talent with Top Laner Hwang “Kingen” Seong-hoon coming back into the roster, the rest of KT looked better as they managed to take down Afreeca in a back and forth 2-1 series. While the team still looks rough at times, such as their loss in Game 2 against Afreeca, the win is a much-needed one as KT fights to stay out of relegation.

While it’s too late this season, KT did look a lot better this week with Kingen in the roster. Moving forward into next season it may be a sign to go younger as jungler Go “Score” Dong-bin is also set to retire. With this season being a lost cause, it’ll be exciting to see where KT goes in the future.

7.Afreeca Freecs (-3)

Current record: 7-5
0-2 vs Gen.G
2-0 vs Jin Air Green Wings

Taking a huge drop to 7th in the power rankings this week is Afreeca. While they were able to pick up a win this week against the last place Jin Air this week, Game 2 was very messy and a troubling sign for a team that currently sits outside a playoff spot. With matches against the top four teams in the standing remaining for Afreeca, every match from here on out is a must-win if they want to find themselves in a playoff spot. With SK Telecom T1 just behind them and Griffin still holding on, Afreeca has a long road ahead of them.

6.Griffin (-)

Current record: 7-4
0-2 vs DAMWON Gaming

Despite having only one game this week, it was an important one that historically has gone in favor of Griffin. However, times have changed as Griffin’s dominance over DAMWON may be coming to an end. While it was a tough loss during a time where every game matters, especially for Griffin who are barely in the playoffs, they’re still in a solid spot to make it. Between them, SK Telecom T1, and Afreeca, Griffin has the easiest schedule going forward. As long as they can maintain solid performances from here on out, they should be able to make the playoffs.

5.SANDBOX Gaming (-2)

Current record: 9-3
0-2 vs Gen.G
2-1 vs Hanwha Life Esports

Despite falling to 5th in the power rankings, Week 6 brought some minor good news for SANDBOX. With their win over Hanwha, SANDBOX is now safe from relegations no matter how they perform from here on out. However, apart from their safety from relegations, SANDBOX don’t have many positives to take from this week. After being outclassed by Gen.G, SANDBOX also struggled against Hanwha, barely winning out in the end.

While SANDBOX is still at the top of the standings, their time on top may be coming to an end soon. With a showdown against second-place DAMWON next week, SANDBOX will need to look a lot better if they want to defend their throne.

4.SK Telecom T1 (+1)

Current record: 6-5
2-0 vs Jin Air Green Wings
Courtesy of: LCK Flickr

A short week for SKT with only a match against Jin Air. Luckily, thanks to the struggles of the other teams, SKT was able to move up to 4th in the power rankings anyways.

From here on out, SKT will have a very tough schedule if they want to make the playoffs. Out of the three teams in contention for the final playoff spot (SKT, Griffin, Afreeca), SKT’s schedule is by far the hardest going forward. With matches against every team above them in the standings, SKT can’t have a drop off in their performance otherwise their trip to the playoffs will be lost.

3.Kingzone DragonX (-1)

Current record: 8-4
2-1 vs Hanwha Life Esports
1-2 vs Gen.G
Courtesy of: LCK Flickr

With a rough 1-1 week, Kingzone drops a spot in the power rankings to 3rd. Overall the team looked sloppy through both series which were both fairly close series at the end of the day. Kingzone looked especially sloppy in Game 3 against Gen.G which was highlighted by a huge misplay at Baron. As a result of their sloppy weak, Kingzone is now at risk of losing their spot at 3rd in the standings. Will they be able to turn it around? Only time will tell.

2.Gen.G (+5)

Current record: 8-4
2-0 vs SANDBOX Gaming
2-1 vs Kingzone DragonX
Courtesy of: LCK Flickr

After another 2-0 week, Gen.G jumps all the way up to second in the power rankings. With players like Top Laner Lee “CuVee” Seong-jin and Mid Laner Song “Fly” Yong-jun stepping up and putting on some great performances to lessen the burden on ADC Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk, Gen.G continues to surprise fans with their recent results. While they have been looking great recently, there’s still more work to be done. With some important matches remaining against the likes of SKT and DAMWON Gaming, Gen.G could still easily drop out of the playoffs. However, as long as they maintain their current form, it will be very unlikely.

1.DAMWON Gaming (-)

Current record: 8-3
2-0 vs Griffin
Courtesy of: LCK Flickr

Staying put at 1st place in the power rankings this week is DAMWON Gaming. Despite having only one match this week it was an important one for the team as they finally beat a Griffin squad that has had their number since Challengers Korea. With that victory and SANDBOX’s 1-1 week, they keep the top spot in the standings. As a result, their upcoming match against SANDBOX will be all the more important.

From entering the LCK together after fighting their way through Challenger to meeting each other in their first LCK playoffs. DAMWON and SANDBOX have been battling it out for a long time now. The question now becomes who will come out on top in their next battle for first place?
