With Korea having its worst season in history, a lot of change is expected. With all the rumors already coming out of Korea, fans are waiting eagerly for official announcements to be released. While we wait, let’s take a look at a few storylines to follow as we await the free agent frenzy to kick into overdrive. Along with that, we’ll look at a few storylines that fans can follow going into the next season and beyond!

How Many Super Teams Will There Be?

Last season, the super team experiment for KT Rolster finally succeeded as the team won the Summer Split and entered Worlds as the 1st seed. While they didn’t end up winning Worlds, it’s clear that the super team worked (eventually). While the KT Rolster roster will be different going into the next season, how many teams will follow their lead and create their own super team?

We already have some front-runners, with rumors of a super team forming on SK Telecom T1 and a mysterious unnamed organisation. Along with big stars like ADC Park “Teddy” Jin-seong, support Cho “Mata” Se-hyeong and jungler Kim “Moojin” Moo-jin available, we could see some amazing rosters being made. So now the question is how many of these rosters will we see, and will they find success immediately? Or will there be growing pains just like KT Rolster?

Will We See More Korean Players Return?

At this point, Korean players leaving the region for better opportunities has become all too common. While rare, we have also seen it go the other way with Korean players making a return to the region. With rumors of players like top laner Kim “Ssumday” Chan-ho potentially rejoining a Korean team, it’ll be interesting to follow if any players actually end up returning.

In the long run, it likely won’t matter. Korea as a region has shown that they’re not reliant on players staying in the region as rookie players can always step up. While it could make the upcoming season interesting to follow, most Korean teams would likely only bring them on as a sub initially. Regardless, it’ll be interesting to see if any Korean teams can convince a player to return to the region.

Will the New Generation Continue Stepping Up?

Last season’s biggest story in Korea was Griffin’s meteoric rise as a team. While they were unable to qualify for Worlds, the future looks bright. Now the rise of the new generation continues with the addition of DAMWON Gaming and Team BattleComics to the league.

While these two teams have looked great in Challengers, they didn’t display the same level of dominance as Griffin. As a result, it’s hard to see them replicating Griffins performance in their first split. On top of that, with an intense offseason taking place, we’re still unsure as to whether these teams will be able to stick together or if a big name org will sign them away instead. Regardless of if these teams are able to stick together, the new generation is clearly here to stay. So let’s keep an eye on them as they try to create their own legacy in Korea and eventually the world.

Who Will Win the Offseason?

This is the question everyone is trying to answer. Change is coming to the region and every team is trying to get ahead. Which team will be the one who carries the torch into the next international event and represents the region? Which team will be able to bring glory back to the region after a disappointing year? The eyes of the world will be watching, which team will rise above the rest and become the new kings of Korea?
