Houston Outlaws: Stage 1 Week 1 Preview

Overwatch League

The hype for Overwatch League 2019 has reached its boiling point. The Houston Outlaws start the season with a matches against the Toronto Defiant and the Boston Uprising. This will be a weekly article series that will be previewing the upcoming matches and catching fans up on last weeks matches. However, because no official matches have been played this will only be a preview for week 1.

Toronto Defiant 0-0-0

The Toronto Defiant may be the sleeping giant of the north. Their roster features a core built around veteran flex tank talent Kang-jae envy” Lee, support Se-hyeon “Neko” Park, and DPS Joon-seong “Asher” Cho. Moreover, they boast a talented coaching staff with veteran coach Yun-ho Bubbly Cho as head coach and Dong-wook Don Kim as assistant coach. Underestimating the Defiant would be a mistake and this could be a difficult match for the Outlaws.

Unfortunately, Houston will have to play escort on Route 66, one of their weakest maps. However, if they can start strong with great flex play Houston may come out with a win.

They will be playing on Nepal, Numbani, Volskaya Industries, and Route 66.

Prediction: Houston 3-2

Player to watch

Jacob “Jake” Lyon

While GOATS may still be in the meta, the Outlaws were gifted with two maps that do not necessarily favor the team composition. If Jake can play well on these flex favored maps with his signature Junkrat play then Toronto may have their work cut out for them.

Boston Uprising 0-0-0

The Boston Uprising made many strong signings in the off-season, adding to their already strong roster. Their veteran tank Lucas “NotE” Meissner and DPS star Kwon “AimGod” Min-seok, return for another season with the Uprising. In addition, they picked up Los Angeles Valiant assistant coach, Jordan “Gunba” Graham and DPS academy stand out Kelsey “Colourhex” Birse. However, the Outlaws are 3-1 against the Boston Uprising in Season 1 of the Overwatch league. If Houston utilizes their veteran experience and knowledge against a team they have beat regularly they could come out with a win.

They will be playing on Nepal, Hollywood, Volskaya, and Dorado.

Prediction: Houston 3-2

Player to watch

Austin “Muma” Wilmot

Muma is arguably one of the best western tanks in the Overwatch League and on Sunday he has to prove it. A key for Houston’s success this match is countering Boston’s veteran tank and DPS line by fighting fire with fire. Muma must come out swinging for Houston to have a chance against the Uprising.
