Florida Mayhem: Stage 4 Week 1 Preview

Publish Date: July 26, 2019

The Florida Mayhem are coming into the final stage of the year with nothing to lose. They have only one match to play in the opening week, and it’s against the very intimidating Titans. This will be the toughest opponent Florida plays this stage by far, so if Florida can take a map against a team like Vancouver then they stand in good stead for the rest of this stage.

Florida Mayhem vs Vancouver Titans

There are those who predict that the Titans will struggle in adapting to a non-tank centric meta. And it makes sense in theory. Can Park “Bumper” Sang-beom be as aggressive and dominant on a more static hero like Orisa? Or will they have to implement their newest roster member Jang-hyeon “TiZi” Hwang regardless of the synergy they may lose because of it? Can Lee “Stitch” Chung-hee perform on the Widowmaker role? These are all legitimate questions to ask of this team. However, it will most likely take a much stronger team than Florida to force the Titans to answer them.

A very important matchup to keep an eye on this series will be the Widowmaker battle. Whether it is Stitch on that sniper role or someone else like Lee “Hooreg” Dong-eun, the Titans may struggle to match the mechanical prowess of the Mayhem sniper Ha “Sayaplayer” Jeong-woo. The double sniper (Widowmaker + Hanzo) composition will be popular this stage. Because of this Sayaplayer will need to be a difference-maker for his team. The map pool for this stage also favours sniper compositions, so this could be the resurgence of the historied Widowmaker god, Sayaplayer.

No one has any idea how Florida will line up this week. They have an 11-man roster with three players that could be played in the off-tank position. Because Florida is such a mystery and because Vancouver has been so dominant in the prior stages, you would have to be a loon to predict anything other than a 4-0 win for the Titans.

Bubbling under the surface of the more rational and sane prediction, however, is a spicy take.  A good Florida team should be able to take advantage of playing Vancouver in the first week following such a monumental change to the game. There is reason to think Florida could make this series close. But that reason goes out the door when you put it this simply: it’s the top of the league versus the bottom of the league. Vancouver should win.

Match Prediction: Vancouver Titans 4 – 0 Florida Mayhem
