Week 4 of Stage 1 has arrived, and with it a tough road ahead for the Boys in Yellow of the Florida Mayhem. After two losses last week to the Guangzhou Charge 3-2 and the Houston Outlaws 3-1, the Mayhem are out of the running for the Stage 1 playoffs. The Mayhem still have two more matches to close out the stage, and this week they take on the 2-3 Boston Uprising. The Uprising look strong coming into this matchup, with Main Tank player Cameron “Fusions” Bosworth leading the charge. Will the Mayhem come out on top, or will the Uprising take another victory this week? Here is the Stage 1 Week 4 Preview for the Florida Mayhem.
Recap:
Guangzhou Charge: 3-2 L
The matchup between the Charge and the Mayhem was an exciting one, with both teams pulling out all the stops to win the match. The Mayhem fielded their new Flex Tank player Caleb “McGravy” McGarvey, and he was performing beyond expectations. Eating graviton surges left and right, McGravy proved why he belongs on a starting lineup. The match was a back and forth struggle as the Mayhem took both the Escort and Hybrid maps, while the Charge took the Control and Assault maps. The Mayhem would force a Map 5 and would ultimately lose to the Charge 3-2.
Houston Outlaws: 3-1 L
In the match that was set to be just as even as the Guangzhou game, the Mayhem struggled to find their footing in this match. The Outlaws came out of the gates swinging, and repeatedly delivered crushing blows to the Mayhem. The Outlaws mistakenly fielded Christopher “Bani” Benell on Map 1 but quickly adapted to win the map. The Mayhem would not go down without a fight however, and managed to hold their own on the other maps. The only map the Mayhem would take was Rialto, in a stunning hold of the Outlaws just short of Point B. The overall score was still a loss however and the Outlaws took the win 3-1
Player of the Week: McGravy
Caleb “McGravy” McGarvey is the new kid on the block in the Overwatch League. He only recently joined the Mayhem roster two weeks ago and made his OWL debut against the Guangzhou Charge. Any time he is in the middle of a fight and the enemy has a graviton surge, he is there ready to eat it with defense matrix. Be sure to keep an eye out on McGravy during the match against the Boston Uprising, as he is sure to pop off this week. If using command center on Twitch, pop over to his POV feed to watch the “Grav-Eating Master” pull off the clutch plays.
The Week Ahead:
Boston Uprising (2-3) on Mar. 10th @ 6:00pm EST
This week’s matchup is between the 1-4 Florida Mayhem and the 2-3 Boston Uprising. The Uprising are coming off of a defeat at the hands of the Toronto Defiant 3-1. The Uprising have fully signed Cameron “Fusions” Bosworth over to the main roster from the academy team. With this addition to their starting roster, the Uprising seem to have the upper hand this week. The Mayhem are looking weak, as Main Tank player Sangwon “Swon” Yoon keeps under-performing and the overall lack of communication from the team still haunts them this stage. Be sure to keep an eye out for Boston’s Fusions and Mayhem’s McGravy, as both are big play makers on each roster and are sure to make the match interesting.
