Week 2 was a bag of mixed emotions for the Florida Mayhem. They started the week on Thursday night with their tremendous upset over the Philadelphia Fusion. Their second match was on Saturday against the Chengdu Hunters and lost on Map 5.
This week promises to also be challenging for the Mayhem, as they take on the Guangzhou Charge on Thursday and the Houston Outlaws on Saturday. The Charge have been a hard roster to beat and the Outlaws are on their back foot with a 1-3 record so far this stage. Here is the Stage 1 Week 3 Preview for the Florida Mayhem.
Week 2 Recap
Philadelphia Fusion (W 2-1)
With perhaps the biggest upset in OWL history, the Mayhem were able to pull off the unthinkable and get their first win over the Philadelphia Fusion. With key shotcaller Boombox missing from the lineup, the Fusion looked discombobulated and unable to rally together. The Mayhem would clutch out the full hold on Temple of Anubis and keep the series tied 1-1. With a remarkable Point A hold on Route 66, the Mayhem would roll over the Fusion and take the win.
Chengdu Hunters (L 3-2)
The game against the Chengdu Hunters was set to be a close match from the beginning. The unpredictable compositions that Chengdu ran proved too much for the Mayhem to handle, but the Mayhem were able to force out a Map 5. Subbing in Jung-woo “Sayaplayer” Ha, the Mayhem took a chance at running a triple DPS lineup but ultimately would lose the map in overtime.
Player of the Week: BQB
Just like in week 1, Sang-bum “BQB” Lee showcased why he is meant to be in the league. His insane Sombra skills proved too much for the Fusion to handle. BQB’s rampage continued on as his Zarya gameplay rivaled that of the top tank players in the league. This coming week should prove to be even more challenging for BQB, as Sombra will prove useful once again as a meta shift is in the air.
Week 3 Preview
Guangzhou Charge (1-2) Feb. 28th @ 10:00pm EST
The first matchup the Florida Mayhem face this week is the Guangzhou Charge. Both teams sit at a 1-2 record and are looking to even out their score. The Hunters sit at a +2 map differential while the Mayhem sit at -4. If either team wants to have any chance at a Stage 1 playoff spot, this is a must win match for them. Keep an eye out for Mayhem activating their two other DPS players Damon “Apply” Conti and “Sayaplayer” to add some spice to the lineup.
Official Prediction: 3-2 in favor of the Guangzhou Charge
Houston Outlaws (1-3) Mar. 2nd @ 4:30pm EST
The second game of the week for the Mayhem is against the Houston Outlaws. The Outlaws are coming off a humiliating defeat at the hands of the New York Excelsior. The NYXL confirmed their dominance over the league with a crushing 4-0 shutout against Houston, who’s only victory is against the Hangzhou Spark. This is a proving ground fight for both teams. For the Mayhem, they need to prove their roster isn’t a fluke and for the Outlaws, they need to show that it was just bad luck against the NYXL. Both teams are on the breaking point, and this match will be the deciding factor of who moves on, and who is going to fall.
Official Prediction: 3-1 in favor of the Florida Mayhem
Bring the Mayhem
This week could be a turning point for the Florida Mayhem, with both matches being played against equally talented rosters. However, as witnessed in Week 2, these games can be unpredictable, and anything goes in the Overwatch League.
