Reports from news outlet
OW Beacon
indicate that the Shanghai Dragons have acquired Kang-jae “envy” Lee from the Toronto Defiant. OW Beacon, which provides English translations of Chinese Overwatch news and content, first reported the news on Twitter.
A flex tank, envy primarily served as the Defiant’s D.Va specialist for the first half of the season. During the midseason break, Toronto picked up Daniel “Gods” Graeser, who moved up to the starting roster to play the hero. For their part, Shanghai does not currently run a flex tank specialist in their starting lineup. With Se-yeon “Geguri” Kim on the bench and Joon-hwan “GuardiaN” Cho recently departing from the team, the Dragons tend to run compositions without D.Va, while DPS star Min-seong “diem” Bae flexes onto Zarya as needed.

Though envy certainly strengthens a weak point in the Shanghai roster, the news has led to some speculation about Geguri’s future with the team. She remains an active member of the roster, but envy’s addition means that she likely will not see much more playtime with the Dragons than what she’s seen so far. Whether she chooses to explore other options remains to be seen.
The Toronto Defiant announced envy’s addition to the team in their first player reveal, back in October 2018. Prior to that, he was a part of the Los Angeles Valiant roster, but has also played for Meta Bellum and Immortals during his professional career.
As of the time of writing, neither the Toronto Defiant nor the Shanghai Dragons have confirmed the report. This piece will be updated if more information becomes available.
