Thoughts from MajorManiak on COVID-19

Publish Date: March 30, 2020

No new information has been released following the postponement of the Call of Duty League. As the community waits for online competitions to begin, players have chosen to keep busy grinding Modern Warfare’s free to play Warzone and participating in Pro 10s to stay on top of their game. Whether it is the Chicago Huntsmen or the Minnesota Røkkr, every team has their designated schedule and ways of dealing with an unprecedented 2020.

For fans of the Atlanta FaZe, they may be wondering how their team is doing during this indefinite hiatus. So, here are some thoughts from Michael “MajorManiak” Syzmaniak on COVID-19 and what it means to be a professional Call of Duty player in times like these.

Thoughts from MajorManiak on COVID-19

  • Can you tell me about your background (how you got into call of duty)?

I’ve been playing video games for most of my life, I started playing Call of Duty on the Nintendo Gamecube. The summer before 6th grade is when I bought a Playstation 3 and Call of Duty 4 and from that point forward I got every new cod on release. I played with friends and family but it wasn’t until the end of AW until I started to realize what I could make out of this.

  • How are you dealing with COVID-19?

I’ve been dealing with it well, so far I’m healthy along with my family and the rest of my teammates.

  • How has COVID 19 affected your team now that the league is online only?

The only thing COVID-19 has affected is our travel to events this season. The format of the league switching to online doesn’t change much but it’s the best way to deal with this situation. Considering safety is a top priority.

  • How do you stay motivated in times like these?

I stay motivated by trying to be on top of my game. I mean that by on and off the sticks. In my opinion, it’s overlooked how important maintaining a healthy balanced lifestyle is. I try to workout and eat good everyday. The longevity that those habits serve I know will pay off for me long term.

  • Has your training schedule changed at all because of the virus?

No, our training schedule has not changed at all.

  • Last question, do you have any advice for players/competitors out there looking to go pro?

My advice for players and other competitors looking to go pro is to build connections, brand yourself and grind the game. Most importantly, you can play as much as you want but you will only start to get better when you sit back and analyze your own mistakes and take mental notes on what to improve on.
