The Seattle Surge, aka Luminosity Gaming, have been made to be a very good team in the past before the franchising of the league. With a bright history of nine tournament wins to their name along with countless legends coming out of the past teams like Josiah “Slacked” Berry and former world champion Johnathon “John” Perez.
Once the league was franchised, the organization decided to keep their two stars Slacked and Sam “Octane” Larew while adding on Ian “Enable” Wyatt, former world champion Bryan “Apathy” Zhelyazkov, and one of the greatest Call of Duty players of all time, Damon “Karma” Barlow. This team was created due to the move of Mathew “Formal” Piper, Pierce “Gunless” Hillman, and the suspension of John.
This team was supposed to be the greatest team ever assembled as it included some of the best players to have ever played the game. But when the season started, it all went horribly wrong. With chemistry and communications issues, the team had to make changes early on with the retiring of Karma and Enable. In which they had to bring their own rookies Casey “Pandur” Romano and Nicholas “Proto” Maldonado.
Despite the changes they made, they still ended up being in last place in the league. When the next season came, Octane was the only player to return to the team as he decided to pick up former teammates Gunless and Daniel “Loony” Loza along with adding Preston “Prestinni” Sanderson.
Again, coincidentally, the changes in the roster did not matter as the team is still at the bottom of the standings. Currently, the Surge are at the point where, due to the team doing so poorly, they are being criticized for not trying during their matches through each stage due to the Surge losing by so much and so convincingly during their matches.
Octane, the shining star of the Seattle Surge, who has been on Surge/Luminosity for three-plus years, is also facing a major crisis as the whole Call of Duty scene knows that he wants to leave the team for another team. Most likely the Los Angeles Thieves. However, Sam Octane is on a huge contract and is stuck on the team. This is due to the loyalty aspect as well as the Seattle Surge not wanting to get rid of their best player.
With the criticism comes huge pressure as the team had a major change this season, and it still did not work out as the person who was set to join the team, Decemate, opted out of the team because he did not want his stock value to go down because the team he was on was doing so bad.
The Seattle Surge went from being the hottest team with the most expectations to the worst team in the league over the last two years. The team went through six different types of a starting roster, all of which did not work.
The team is currently at the bottom of the table sitting with only four wins. With the season coming to an end and the team at a crossroads, will this team remain on its downfall, or will Surge get back to their Luminosity Gaming days of triumph.
