Scump Officially Retires from Competitive Call of Duty

Publish Date: January 18, 2023

The competitive Call of Duty world will be without one of the all-time greats after surprise announcement. On Tuesday January 16, Seth “Scump” Abner announced his official retirement from competitive Call of Duty and the Call of Duty League. Scump had announced earlier in the preseason that the 2023 season would be his last as a player. However just after the first weekend in the Major II qualifiers, Scump revealed that he is ending his season early.

Scump joined Optic all the way back in 2012, and never wavered from the organization. He entered the Call of Duty League with the Chicago Huntsmen, the Optic owned franchise spot at the time, and continued to play under the Optic banner for each following year. Scump has been a pivotal piece of Optic’s success for the past ten years, bringing home several championships along the way.

Going forward Optic Texas will field Brandon “Dashy” Otell in Scump’s spot for the remainder of the season. Dashy was benched part way through the 2022 season, but now is getting a second shot at a starting roster after Scump’s retirement.

To start their Major II run, Optic Texas outlasted the Boston Breach in a 3-2 victory. At 1-0 Optic will aim to continue their success, and with added motivation to perform well for their retired team mate, Optic will remain a tough opponent for the rest of the league.
