Minnesota Rokkr: Team Participates in CMG Variant Event, What to Take Note of

The Minnesota Rokkr didn’t participate in any CDL events this past weekend but they did play in a CMG (Checkmate Gaming) event. They took on fellow CDL squads and CMG teams with collections of pros. They battled it out with a familiar foe in the Florida Mutineers among other teams. It had the same vibes as the CDL to a certain extent because of the game modes being played. Hardpoint, Domination and Search & Destroy were the core modes in what was a long night for all teams involved. They continued their winning ways in Hardpoint as they didn’t really lose a beat.

All of the players played consistently, with Alexx continuing his offensive excellence. Even in SnD, they played well by making a great comeback against one of the CMG teams. Although it was during a CDL tournament, it was one of their best comebacks of the season. With their backs against the wall, down 4-0, they’d climb all the way back for the win.

In what was a fairly lowkey event, what are some things that fans can take note from? There are a couple of things; one related to the Rokkr and one related to the Call of Duty League.

It gives a taste of what the rest of the CDL season will look like

With the Coronavirus postponing the inaugural CDL season until an online alternative is ready, the CMG Variant Tourney gave fans a general idea of what it’ll be like. Since the league is played on LANs, it’s going to be a pretty weird transition, especially for fans who are new to Call of Duty and Esports in general. That said, it should be fun as well, as it’ll be interesting to see how things are played out and how the broadcast presentation will be as well. Although it will be different, there will be comfort in knowing that professional Call of Duty can still be played and enjoyed by many.

Top Rebel players got a shot with the Rokkr briefly

At the beginning of the season, TTinyy and Exceed went to Rebel, the Rokkr’s Challengers squad on a loan. Both of them had an opportunity to put their skills on display with the Rokkr. They played well, giving fans a glimpse of what the future may look like for the team. TTinyy ended up with over 20 kills in one of the matches. He was also credited with the “Play of the Game” where he notched up a beautiful kill streak. If there’s one thing that came from this, is that the Rokkr have a couple of potential rising stars.
