Minnesota Rokkr: Discord Watch Party, a Unique Way to Take in Matches

Publish Date: May 12, 2020

The Minnesota Rokkr hosted their second watch party event over the weekend. The team went to war against teams like Florida and New York in the former’s home series. They swept the Mutineers in impressive fashion. However, they unfortunately get swept by the Subliners and sent home. Eventually, Atlanta would go on to win their second title. Nonetheless, the watch party put on by the team was enjoyable.

Taking place on their Discord page, Rokkr fans from all over can hop in and take part in discussions regarding the matches. This was normally done via the General chat section. There are other parts of the server included as well such as CDL Discussion, Fan Art and Memes. The variety is enough to keep fans engaged.

When live, the audio/video portion of the server is opened for all to hear and watch. These are usually hosted by popular content creators who are connected to the Rokkr. For this past one, MiDNiTE, EsportsDoug and Allycxt hosted the stream. They gave their thoughts on the matches and everything that was happening.

Fans were able to freely come in and out of the audio section and hop between different sections of the server. As can be imagined, fans and Rokkr staff were going bonkers during key moments in matches. If SiLLY went off and had a great game, many folks would type in their chants of “SiLLY!” and throw in emojis. Or, when it was Asim who popped off, then the reactions were just as wild.

Usually, the Rokkr would host watch parties at certain locations in Minneapolis. However, they’ve done a good job of taking advantage of the current situation everyone has found themselves in. By utilizing Discord to near perfection, they have been able to combat the obstacles. And even after the Rokkr were eliminated, the chat raged on. After the last couple of events, there’s no doubt that fans could see another one during the Seattle home series.
