CWL Pro League: Team Envyus Struggling

Starting off Division B with a poor 1-2 record, it can surely only go up for Team Envyus. What went wrong for the squad in Week One, and what do they need to improve going into a difficult set of matches in Week Two?

“Inexcusable start from us”

Coming off the back of a dominant 6-0 showing at the Pro League Qualifier, many Competitive Call of Duty fans had Envy in their top four going into Division B, myself included. Currently finding themselves in the sixth spot, there is much to improve for the squad going into the second round of matches.

Team Envy started with a result that Head Coach Embry ‘Bevils’ Bevil described as ‘inexcusable’ as they fell short in a 3-2 series loss to Excelerate Gaming. A more expected loss against top dogs Splyce left Envy in a tough spot, but a 3-1 victory over Denial Esports finally put a much-needed win on the board for the squad.

A shining light in an otherwise bleak situation was the performances of Cuyler ‘Huke’ Garland, who currently tops the League chart in Kill/Death ratio, with a very impressive 1.36. On the other hand, teammate and two-time World Champion Bryan ‘Apathy’ Zhelyazkov currently sits at a 0.76. This is an uncharacteristic performance from such a consistent player, and he will have to step up his numbers if Envy are to have a fighting chance in a tough second round of matches.

Tough Week Two Matches

Week Two is certainly crunch time for this squad, with wins much needed to close out the Division. The reality is, however, that their Week Two fixture list looks very difficult on paper. With matches against two of the current top three, Heretics and eUnited, just around the corner, Envy will have to perform much better this week to gain any wins.

A squad known for their clutch factor, it is never a wise idea to count out this Envy squad, however. Consisting of four of the current World Champions, and an on fire Huke, it is certainly possible that Envy come out of their Week Two matches with a positive win record. It all starts with their Monday night matchup with fellow strugglers 100 Thieves, in an important mid-Division clash.
