CWL Pro League Finals Recap

The CWL Pro League Finals wrapped up this weekend with eUnited defeating Gen.G to earn first place and take home $1.25 million. This marks eUnited’s first title since February of 2017. Here is a break down of how eUnited were able to cap off their victory.

WHAT WENT DOWN

Entering the finals, eUnited had two chances to win a best-of-five game series against Gen.G. Although Gen.G was lower bracketed, they showed up early by winning the first series with a clean 3-0 sweep. Gen.G looked dominant in the first series, with huge wins on Hardpoint, Search and Destroy and Control. While it looked like it was going to be a competitive final series, eUnited kept their cool. They came right back with a 3-0 sweep of their own to capture the title. In a completely different manner, eUnited was able to dominate Gen.G with ease. Chris “Simp” Lehr was named the tournament MVP.

Although the victory was certainly satisfying for eUnited, it was even sweeter for team captain James “Clayster” Eubanks. Clayster’s winning drought had stretched over for close to 4 years. After their victory, Clayster could not keep back the tears of joy after having his drought finally snapped. “Woke up a champion today for the first time in a LOT of days and boy does it feel good” he tweeted out after capturing the title. While Clayster may not have been the star of the team, his teammates recognized not only his winning drought but commitment and leadership that helped their team thrive.

LOOKING FORWARD

Although this was a gigantic win for eUnited, they will now focus on the CWL Championship. This will be held in Los Angeles on August 14^th. Here, 32 teams will compete for the $2 million grand prize. While eUnited will hope to reclaim another title, they will be met with other top-ranked teams such as OpTic Gaming and FaZe Clan who each have star lineups of their own. eUnited will have to stay calm, cool and collected as they will be sure to face another uphill battle if they want a shot at that grand prize. Demonstrating extreme composure after losing their first series to Gen.G, Clayster will have to rally that same sort of charisma if his team will have another chance to compete for the title. Nonetheless, this will be another exciting tournament for Call of Duty fans.
