CDL Rostermania 2022 is full of teams making moves, and several teams completely wiping their roster. Other teams have let go of some players, and have signed new ones. Here’s what has happened in the first two weeks of Rostermania.
The Seattle Surge did not hesitate when CDL Rostermania began. On August 21, the team decided to release all their players and their head coach. Nicholas “Classic” DiCostanzo, Pierce “Gunless” Hillman, Daniel “Loony” Loza, Sam “Octane” Larew, Preston “Prestinni” Sanderson and Head Coach Joey “Nubzy” DiGiacomo were all released after the Seattle Surge finished in the bottom four for the second year in a row. Although it looked like the team was turning a corner in the Stage Five Major, a reset could be what this team needs heading into the 2022 Call of Duty Vanguard Season.
The Paris Legion followed behind the Seattle Surge as they also released their entire roster on August 27. The team placed last in the regular season, and decided to shake their roster up once again. Ulysses “Aqua” Silva, Matthew “Skrapz” Marshal, Donovan “Temp” Laroda and Alex “Zaptius” Bonilla went to free agency. This is the second time the Paris Legion have released their roster after a disappointing regular season.
Other teams dropped either all or most of their rosters on August 29. The Los Angeles Guerrillas released their entire roster and Acedemy rosters. After finishing last season in 11 and the previous in last, it was time to shake it up to make some changes. The team went on to sign Obaid “Asim” Asim, Cuyler “Huke” Garland, Austin “Slasher” Liddicoat and Gunless to start their roster. The London Royal Ravens also trimmed their roster to all but one player. After finishing in the bottom four, the only remaining player is Marcus “Afro” Reid.
Some other notable moves and released were made over these first two weeks of CDL Rostermania. The Dallas Empire released Ian “C6” Porter and Reece “Vivid” Drost to free agency on August 27. C6 is the highest earner in CoD history and was with the team since the beginning. Vivid also helped replace Huke and helped lead the team to a Top Three finish this year.
Matthew “Formal” Piper of OpTic Chicago announced on August 28 he was retiring from professional Call of Duty. Formal won a World Championship and an MVP award while playing over his 11-year career. OpTic Chicago also released Dylan “Envoy” Hannon to free agency.
The Los Angeles Thieves let go four players on September 1. Slasher, Johnathan “John” Perez, Thomas “Tjhaly” Haly and Carlos “Venom” Hernandez will not be returning to the Los Angeles Thieves roster. The team placed 7th this season.
The New York Subliners released Conor “Diamondcon” Johst. Diamondcon played with the New York Subliners after James “Clayster” Eubanks took a leave of absense from the team. The team also released Asim, who went to the Los Angeles Guerrillas.
The Toronto Ultra released Anthony “Methodz” Zinni after they decided to not extend his contract.
