With the official season upon us, the Seattle Surge is looking to shock the world even more after being runners-up in the Kickoff Classic a couple of weeks ago. With their young squad, they look to surprise many teams in their raw talent and experience. Along with Mack, Pred, and Accuracy, there is Daunte “Sib” Gray, a young player with great raw talent. Here now, we are going to take a look at him in this edition of CDL Profiles: Simple Sib.
Let’s keep it nice and simple on his beginning in playing Call of Duty. He was just like a number of Call of Duty enthusiasts in that he was also enticed by the FPS on its great gameplay and style. Only with Sib, this was not enough. He didn’t just want to play the game. He wanted to be great at it.
In this game, although he only competed in two tournaments. It definitely set the pace for his career as he was still so young in the Call of Duty competitive scene. He showed great promise whilst playing with the likes of Exceed, Zyral, and Pawns. However, other than the Top 16 and Top 32 finishes, the most significant part of this time is the fact that he teamed with his now teammate, Mack.
At the beginning of the year, Sib got signed to his first team, the Orlando Reapers. In that, he eventually won his very first tournament, winning the Afterdark Esports Orlando Open with the team. He got his second win in a pro-down tournament as well shortly after. He later signed with another team, 3Kingz Gaming, and won a tournament whilst playing for them.
He later signed with Aspire Esports where he won his fourth tournament in his career and in the year while getting a 2nd place finish as well. At the end of the game, he then got his fifth tournament win of the year in winning a CMG gaming tournament with a made-up crew of Zyyral, Nero, Fire, and Infamous.
At the beginning of the title, he resigned from Aspire Esports and got a second-place finish. Later signed with InControl gaming and won the sixth tournament of his career. After placing well in the following tournaments, he got signed to his first major team in Atlanta FaZe, where he got to play for their academy team. Whilst with FaZe, he won six more tournaments with them. He won five B-tier tournaments in that they were basically majors for the challenger scene. He eventually placed fourth in the North American Challengers Finals.
In the beginning of Cold War, he joined uTCrew. Whilst playing for them, he won four more tournaments playing with Phantomz, Wrecks, and Jimbo. Fantastic Four later picked him up in the year where he won two more tournaments. He then signed for EastR with GRVTY, John, and Jurd where he won two more tournaments. He and EastR placed Top 8 in the finals of that year.
He then signed with Seattle Surge, after showing great promise in Cold War with uT Crew, Fantastic Four, and EastR. This was the case as he won 8 tournaments in the year. With that great promise and raw talent, the Seattle Surge signed him. In signing him, they are already looking to have made the right decision as he has showcased his talent. He already got a top-two placement in the league as well as a tournament win under his belt. There is a lot to look forward to for the 22-time tournament winner, Simple Sib.
