Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Gunsmith

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Gunsmith, a new loadout system, has been featured in a new Activision teaser. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will feature the new system, which is set to hit shelves in October 2019. Although the teaser itself did not give fans much, this will break down the new features of Gunsmith and how it will change the game entirely.

5 SLOTS

Unlike recent Call of Duty games, Modern Warfare’s Gunsmith will only allow players to customize their weapons with five slots. Traditionally, players have been able to customize their loadouts with much more flexibility. In his blog entry, David Hodgson writes:

“Each Primary and Secondary Weapon can be augmented to give you the precise type and style of firepower you require for any type of multiplayer game mode. You can customize up to five parts of each weapon, until your available slots are filled. With Assault Rifles, for example, you usually have nine areas of the weapon to augment: The Muzzle, Lasers, Optic, Stock, Rear Grip, Magazine, Underbarrel, Barrel, or a Perk. Choose wisely.”

WHAT THIS MEANS

With the five slot maximum, players will have to be clever in how they divide their attachments and perks. No longer will players be able to stack up attachments or perks that will overpower one’s abilities. Players will need to focus on critical aspects of their skills they wish to enhance with specific attachments and perks. With only five slots to spare, the game has become increasingly more strategic than ever before. The teaser reveals dozens of loadout combinations, which could be seen more than ever in a Call of Duty game. Combining the number of customizations with the five slot maximum, players need to think much harder when choosing their loadouts.

IMPROVEMENTS

As Modern Warfare is seemingly reverting to its boots-on-the-ground, basic gun fighting roots, it is only consequential to believe Gunsmith will too be simplified. Without the overbearing amounts of specialized attachments such as operator mods that can make a weapon extremely overpowered, it is our hope Gunsmith will bring a certain amount of normality back into the game. Nevertheless, you will see Gunsmith when Activision releases their Multiplayer reveal on the first of August.
