Gunfight, a new game mode that will be introduced with the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare later this year, was recently displayed to the public. In a Twitch livestream, prominent gamers showcased the new mode to thousands of fans. Gunfight is certainly something fans have never seen before in a Call of Duty game. So, what exactly is Gunfight?
THE BASICS

Gunfight is a 2v2, fast paced game mode that has never been introduced in any prior Call of Duty game. Once the game starts, players have a 40-second countdown to eliminate the opposing players. If the timer runs out without the opposing team being eliminated, a flag will appear in the center of the map and the first team to control the flag for three seconds will win the round. The team to win six rounds total will win the Gunfight. Players will not get to choose their load out, and instead each player is given the exact same weapons to level the playing field. Additionally, the game mode will be played on specially designed small maps, to increase the speed of the rounds.
WHAT’S THE BIG DEAL

As Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 introduced the new Blackout game mode, Gunfight seems to be their next step. For fans who want a fast paced gameplay, or something more casual than your average multiplayer lobby, this game mode seems to fit the bill. As well, Gunfight seems to be one of the most barebone features that the series has rolled out. With each player receiving the same loadout, players are solely relying on their basic skills to eliminate the enemy. There seems to be no fancy or tricky add-ons in Gunfight, which could be a great thing. Taking into account many of the preposterous additions Call of Duty has made to their games over the past years.
HOW GUNFIGHT COULD BE GREAT

While the livestream was certainly promising, fans have compiled a few ideas that could make Gunfight truly great and worth playing. The first would be the ability to team up with a friend, and choose to play other teams online. As well, it would be interesting to see Gunfight be playable in an offline setting. Back when online multiplayer was not as big as it is today, offline matches were popular among friends.
Being able to run a split-screen, four player Gunfight among friends on the same console could be appealing. Fans have spoken about potentially altering Gunfight to include multiple, fast-paced game modes. This could include a Demolition and Search and Destroy or Capture the Flag 2v2 variation. While Gunfight is still in its early stages, it is promising to see Activision and Infinity Ward introducing new game modes with their upcoming title.
