Call of Duty League Stage Five Major Ends in Thrilling Comeback

Publish Date: August 2, 2021

Call of Duty League Stage Five Major ended in a thriller with the Minnesota Rokkr reverse-sweeping the Toronto Ultra to win the major. The Seattle Surge performed the best they have in the whole season, and causing a major upset against the Atlanta FaZe.

Minnesota Rokkr Complete Comeback to Win Stage Five Major

The Minnesota Rokkr are the Stage Five Major Champions. They had a tough road to the finals, starting with their first match against the Atlanta FaZe. The Minnesota Rokkr took a 2-0 lead before the Atlanta FaZe tried to come back and won the Control game 3-0. However, the Minnesota Rokkr took the win in a first round upset against the Atlanta FaZe and moved on to the Dallas Empire. The Minnesota Rokkr went down early in the match 1-0. They took control of the match and stormed back to win 3-1 to advance to the Winners Finals.

The Minnesota Rokkr were in control of the match against the Toronto Ultra. Leading off with a win in Hardpoint, they went on to sweep the Toronto Ultra and waited for their final match.

The championship match is a rematch of the Winners Final, and the Toronto Ultra took off. The Toronto Ultra destroyed the Minnesota Rokkr in the first Hardpoint 250-34. They followed that performance up with a 6-1 Search and Destroy win and a 3-1 Control win. The Toronto Ultra held their own against the Minnesota Rokkr and took a commanding 4-0 game lead heading into Game Five. However, the Minnesota Rokkr began their comeback after winning Game Five. They followed up with a dominant Game Six Control and Game Seven Search and Destroy. The Minnesota Rokkr continued their reverse sweep and tied the match 4-4 going into a Game Nine Search and Destroy. The Minnesota finished off the reverse sweep with a 6-3 win.

They won the grand prize of $200,000 and will play in the first round of the playoffs on August 19.

Seattle Surge Continue to Improve

Before the Stage Five Major, the Seattle Surge were at the bottom of the regular season standings. However, they performed their best in the Stage Five Major. Their first match against the Paris Legion saw them win 3-1 after several great performances. The Seattle Surge followed that performance with a sweep against the London Royal Ravens in the Eliminations Round Two. However, their biggest test came against the number one seeded Atlanta FaZe.

The Seattle Surge won the first game of hardpoint 250-174. After that, Atlanta FaZe put on dominating performances in Search and Destroy and Control to go up 2-1. The Seattle Surge held strong and tied up the series 2-2 with a 250-232 Hardpoint game. Game Five saw the Seattle Surge take the early lead 3-1, but the Atlanta FaZe came back and won three straight to go ahead 4-3. The Seattle Surge were able to dodge scorestreaks from the Atlanta FaZe and took them down 6-4 to win the match 3-2. With the upset, the Seattle Surge were able to make something happen at the end of the season says Preston “Prestinni” Sanderson.

“It’s just sweet to win again. Even if he wasn’t on the team, us beating the number one team in the world, feels good to be on the map again,” Prestinni says. “You know, we struggled this year, but we made something finally happen at the end.”

The Seattle Surge ended up losing 3-2 against OpTic Chicago, finishing their season in ninth place.
