FunnyAstro joins Atlanta after the Reign finished 5th overall in Stage 1 of the Overwatch League. ATL Academy, their Contenders organization, is also currently 5th overall in the NA West group. It should be noted that there are restrictions placed on two-way players regarding the number of Overwatch League games they can play at a time. This technicality that has reared its head at inopportune moments for other two-way players.
FunnyAstro released a follow-up tweet expressing his excitement to join the Reign this season – citing the OWL team specifically, rather than ATL Academy. It remains to be seen which squad he will see more time with.
This signing comes on the tail of Daniel “Dafran” Francesca’s retirement on Thursday, which shocked fans and pundits across the League.

The former British Hurricane main support has been on hiatus in recent months, after a contract dispute with the London Spitfire (Hurricane’s parent team) and the Boston Uprising, where Hathaway was set to sign. Dot Esports’s Nicole Carpenter reported that Overwatch League officials did not approve the contract after evidence of boosting activities surfaced. Allegations of a potential suspension due to the boosting launched the Spitfire and the Uprising into legal battles over contract nullification and the payment of transfer fees for FunnyAstro. Neither the Reign nor ATL Academy have responded to The Game Haus’s request for comment regarding FunnyAstro’s signing, or any future punishments that may be levied upon him as a result of these past allegations.
