I’m someone who works from home, and despite being in this position for five years now, I’ve never owned a true office or gaming chair. I would usually just work on the couch or at my dinner table, which came with some not-so-comfortable wooden seats. So, when E-WIN gave TGH the opportunity to review their Champion Series Gaming Chair, I jumped at the opportunity.
Again, this review is coming from someone who’s been primarily a couch gamer and coffee shop lurker, so my experience with chairs like these is limited to non-existent. However, I’m starting to see why people invest in them after receiving E-WIN’s.
The box arrived in good condition, and it had the appropriate signage on it; i.e., it wasn’t some sort of big, scary unmarked package. I live at the top of a three-story walk-up, and the dimensions of it made it too hard to carry up myself. If you order this chair and are in a situation like mine, have a friend on hand because it’s a bit heavy. That’s not a criticism, just something to mention.
Assembly was decently easy, however, packaged with the chair were instructions for a different product of theirs. About halfway through assembling it, I had to sort of wing it and use common sense to finish the job, because the raising/lowering mechanism on the instruction card was completely different.
All-in-all, though, it wasn’t too big of a pain. Once you get going, this chair is pretty easy to put together. They also include extra screws and other small bits just in case you lose some, which is nice. It probably took around 30 minutes in total.
Instead of a lever like a regular office chair, it has a sort of switch that you flip when you want to adjust the height. On the other side is a lock what I’m assuming is rocking, but I haven’t noticed much of a difference either way.
As far as reclining goes, there are a bevy of options here. At it’s most acute, the E-WIN sits at 85 degrees, but can be reclined all the way to 155 degrees. That’s pretty crazy to me, as someone who hasn’t ever owned a chair like this. Common office chairs I’m familiar with just recline a bit, but you could absolutely take a nap in this chair, flat on your back.
Along with the reclining options, my other favorite feature is the armrests. They adjust vertically, of course, but they also can be shifted from front to back. In addition, they also sort of tilt or angle from side to side, which has been surprisingly useful. The padding leaves a bit to be desired, but it’s not a deal-breaker by any means.
The Champion Series Chair is just about exactly as comfortable as you would want/expect it to be.
All told, I’ve been using this chair a lot. Not just for work, but I slide it over to the television when I want to relax and play a video game. I don’t have a gaming PC, so I can’t speak to how it performs for long sessions at the desk with a mouse and keyboard, but it’s great for me and my laptop Monday-Friday.
It comes with two pillows that can be removed if you’d like. One sturdy lumbar support pillow that I’ll probably never remove, and one headrest pillow. The latter is a bit small and slides around a bunch, but I usually sit forward anyway, so it’s not a big issue.
I’ve done just a bit of research on gaming chairs and what to expect of them since receiving this one. The thing that has surprised me the most is just how seriously people take them, and, in turn, how expensive they can become.
A quick search on Google states that the E-WIN Champion Series Gaming Chair will run you $229, which seems like a pretty good deal (from a novice’s perspective). It has a sturdy metal base, smooth wheels and a litany of ways to get comfortable.
If you’re a combo gamer/WFH warrior, I’m not really sure what more you could ask for than what this chair provides. It’s not too gaudy, it’s functional, comfortable and comes in a variety of different colors from what I can see.
A first-timer like me may be a bit trepidatious when seeing an over-$200 price tag, but as I get a bit older, I’m seeing the value in spending a bit more money on things you’ll be using often, and thing that go between your body and the ground.
This is a massive upgrade from being slumped on my couch all day long, and it’s a lot better on my back, too. If you’re looking to ditch your cheap office chair that was gifted to you, or found at your old school, then the E-WIN Champion Series is a quality product that won’t absolutely break the bank.
