How Esports Betting Is Slowly Taking Over the World

Publish Date: July 10, 2022

Sports betting has always been popular among sports fans, but a new trend has since grown so big in popularity that it might challenge the dominance of the sports betting industry.

The esports industry is growing slowly but surely, making it one of the most popular forms of entertainment. It is estimated that esports viewership will challenge and perhaps even surpass sports audiences in the future, increasing the worth of the esports betting industry. But how has esports, once a subculture, gained such a level of success and popularity?

The growing popularity of geek culture

There was a time when the world was split into two groups: geeks and non-geeks. Toda the two groups have fused, making geek culture more popular than ever. What was once a geek subculture has now become a part of the mainstream. Movies that would have been considered nerdy in the past, are now attracting big audiences – and big money! Gaming is continuing to gain popularity in youth culture, and conventions like comic-con are spreading across the globe. In other words, it has never been more acceptable to be a so-called geek.

This tendency is particularly visible in the popularity of esports betting. While sports still dominate mainstream media, the esports industry is slowly gaining more and more popularity, making the esports betting industry a strong competitor to the ever-so-popular activity of sports betting.

The rise of the esports industry

Gaming used to be considered a hobby exclusively for teenage boys and geeks, but today geek culture and popular culture have fused, making gaming an acceptable pastime for everyone. As a result, esports betting is gaining more and more popularity in the mainstream. The esports betting industry is estimated to be worth more than 23 billion dollars in 2028.

This is mainly due to the rise of esports tournaments featuring popular games like Overwatch, Counterstrike, and Dota 2. People who enjoy playing these kinds of games, enjoy watching experts play them. In this regard, esports is not much different from sports. Compared to sports, the esports industry is still in its infancy. What will happen in the future only time will tell, but one thing is certain: the esports industry is on the rise, and so is betting on esports.

How to bet on esports

Sports have always been a part of popular culture, but today popular culture is more or less a fragment of the past. The internet has created an interest in watching people compete against each other playing video games, making it possible for esports events and live tournaments to take place.

Geek culture is challenging ‘the jocks’, making esports betting a real competitor to sports betting. Although sports are still popular among the public, esports is slowly gaining popularity. If you have tried sports betting, getting involved with esports betting is fairly easy. You have a variety of games to bet on, and if the success of esports continues, you will be able to bet on more games and a larger range of bets in the future.
