This week, Champions League’s first leg of semi-finals will be held. Here is a quick recap and insight into who is predicted to win.
Tottenham Hotspur vs. Ajax
Close to a week ago, the Tottenham Hotspurs secured their position in Champions League with a (4-4) aggregate. The first leg ended with a 1-0 win for Tottenham. The second leg Manchester City beat Tottenham 4-3, making the aggregate 4-4. Tottenham moved on to the semi-final due to away goals.
Ajax played Juventus for the quarter-final. In the first leg, they tied 1-1. The second leg ended with Ajax winning 2-1, pushing them on to the semi-final with an aggregate of 3-2 with one more away goal.
Ajax will most likely be playing a strong 4-3-3 lineup that they have been using a lot for this tournament. Tottenham will most likely be playing a 3-4-1-2 formation with Lucas Moura filling in for Harry Kane.
Tottenham has the home field advantage for the first leg. Although, Ajax’s statistics for the last 10 games shows the probability of them winning the game.
Barcelona vs. Liverpool
The quarterfinal, Barcelona played Manchester United. Barcelona won 1-0 in the first leg. In the second leg, they secure their position for semi-finals with a 3-0 win. The final aggregate was 4-0.
Liverpool played Porto for the quarterfinal. Liverpool won 2-0 in the first leg. In the second leg, they won 4-1, pushing them onto the semi-finals with an aggregate of 6-1 with four away goals.
Barcelona will most likely be playing a 4-3-3 lineup with Philippe Coutinho, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi up top. Liverpool will most likely be playing a 4-3-3 as well with S. Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah up top. Both lineups have the depth that will make it a tough match.
Within the last six matches that they have faced each other Liverpool has won three times, lost twice and has tied Barcelona once.
Liverpool is expected to win, but with Barcelona just winning La Liga their confidence may shine through this game with a win.
Both games will be an interesting matchup that can go either way. Tottenham and Ajax’s game will be on Tuesday, April 30 at 3 p.m. EST Barcelona and Liverpool’s game will be on Wednesday, May 1 at 3 p.m.
