Curse is one of the most oppressive single-target shutdown tools in Deadlock. Used well, it can flip fights or delete a fed carry’s impact for a crucial window, allowing your team to get back in control of the team fight, and maybe even the game. But, is it a good item? Let’s take a look.
Tab / Cost: Spirit, 6,400 souls
Passive stat: +20% weapon damage (easy to forget—but real!)
Active (50s CD): Curse a target at up to 20m, interrupting, silencing, disarming, and blocking item use for 3.25s (baseline).
Targeting: Lock-on cast (unlike beam-aimed tools such as Capacitor).
Takeaways: it’s a long-range, point-and-click “no buttons for you” that also mildly buffs gun builds.
You can justify Curse on almost any hero because the active is universally useful. It’s strongest on heroes who convert a 3.25-second window into a guaranteed pick.
Excellent users
Warden (hybrid gun/ult) – curse → chase/ult; benefits from the +20% weapon damage.
Lash / Mo & Krill – curse locks victims for slam/chain combos.
Lady Geist – pairs shutdown with burst/poke to finish.
Kelvin / Dynamo – set-and-spike: dome/stomp chains after the curse.
Also viable: Frontliners and gankers that need one reliable catch to start fights. Pure backline gun carries can still run it as a team utility slot thanks to the weapon-damage passive.

There’s a single problem carry. If one player is wildly ahead (e.g., a stacked Mo & Krill or snowballing Yamato/Lash), Curse lets you force a pick and stall their tempo.
You need guaranteed engage or peel. Use to interrupt channels, cancel ults, or peel divers off your backline.
Pick-before-fight comps. Pair with hook/door/knockup to secure a 5v4 before objectives.
You’re playing offensively from behind. Curse plus two teammates’ follow-up can erase a gold gap.
Synergies
Follow-up CC/damage: Kelvin dome, Dynamo stomp, Krill chains.
Cooldown compression: Transcendent Cooldown reduces the item CD (≈ 50s → 35s), making Curse a repeated threat in skirmish-heavy games.
Mostly situational. It’s the right answer against specific enemy lineups or win conditions.
Can be core in hybrid Warden or similar builds that lean on picks and also enjoy the +20% weapon damage.
If your comp already has abundant, reliable lockdown, or you urgently need raw damage/defenses, keep it as a flex slot.

Curse is a premier single-target denial tool with no true substitute: it interrupts, silences, disarms, and blocks items in one button. Treat it as a scalpel—bring it when a specific hero must be removed from the fight or when your game plan hinges on clean picks.
