Deadlock’s recent major update has finally wrapped up, but there’s a strong reason to believe that a lot more could be coming down the pipeline very soon. With the experimental server activity ramping up, new early Hero concepts surfacing, and ongoing rumors about larger systems in development, Deadlock doesn’t look like it’s slowing down anytime soon.
Let’s break down what we know, what we don’t know, and what could realistically be next for Deadlock.
The biggest recent discussion centers around a potential new hero called Cheshire, first posted by Deadlock UA on February 17. The early concept describes an ability called Secret Bag, where Cheshire pulls a teammate into the tunnels of the map — the same secret passages used by Rem. While inside the bag, Cheshire receives specific buffs.
These are early experimental concepts and should be taken with a grain of salt, especially as we’ve already seen conflicting descriptions of how Cheshire functions. In the past, heroes appeared in Hero Labs or on the test server long before final designs were locked in.
New heroes are inevitable. The real question is timing.
Minesweeper posted an image showing a large volume of updates hitting the Deadlock experimental server. Alongside that, he mentioned expectations for several new additions to the game.
I’ve heard similar sentiments. The Hideout, in particular, feels like it’s being positioned as more than just a menu space.
You can now stand on the chandelier. Rem has his own room. The elevator and locked doors feel like clear hints of expansion. Developers seem to be signaling that the hideout will become a storytelling hub where players interact with heroes and explore lore more directly.
That aligns with the idea of expanded narrative systems within the client.
If you look back a year ago, Deadlock updates came in bursts with longer quiet periods. Since the August update and especially after Old Gods New Blood, the pace feels different.
The release of a massive update on playdeadlock.com felt like a public-facing declaration. The art direction is clear. The identity is solidified. The systems feel cohesive.

Even if open beta doesn’t arrive immediately, Deadlock already feels like it has taken its next developmental step.
The next phase may not be announced yet, but all signs suggest that we are moving toward something bigger.
If you’re a new player, this is a fascinating time to jump in. And if you’ve been here since the early days, it’s hard not to feel like we’re watching the game step into its next chapter.
