As you can see with the new menu screen, the holiday season has officially arrived in Deadlock. And honestly, the timing couldn’t be better with a big update looming right around the corner.
Before jumping into visuals, there was a small but important piece of news that surfaced alongside the update. According to Minesweeper and shared by Deadlock Intel, voicelines have been added to the game files for several upcoming heroes, including Fencer, Werewolf, Unicorn, Necro, and more. This strongly suggests Valve is laying groundwork for a January hero update, even if nothing is officially playable yet.
Loading into the hideout, the first thing that hits you is just how decorated everything is. Holiday lights everywhere, new lighting, and an overall cozy vibe that honestly fits Deadlock really well. Front and center is the Holiday Challenge Tree, which you can interact with to earn unique ornaments by winning games on different heroes.

Each ornament adds to your tree and increases your snowball active, which is a fun little hideout interaction you can mess around with while hanging out with friends. It’s silly, it’s festive, and it doesn’t take itself too seriously—which is exactly what a holiday update should be.
There are also smaller touches everywhere: mistletoe, ornaments, a giant ornament ball with physics, birds wearing Santa hats, and even city lights visible outside the hideout windows. It’s genuinely a vibe.
Once you load into a match, the holiday theme continues. Boxes across the map have been replaced with holiday-themed crates, and jungle creeps have been transformed into snowmen, complete with grumpy expressions and multiple size variants. There are also Christmas lights strung throughout different areas of the map, adding just enough seasonal flair without impacting gameplay.

One subtle addition is a new news terminal tucked under the stairwell in the hideout. You can interact with a computer to view recent updates directly in-game—something that could become really useful long-term. Interestingly, the old voting booth is now gone, which may hint at future changes or a new voting system coming later.
Overall, this holiday update is exactly what it should be: festive, fun, and low-pressure—while quietly setting the stage for what looks like a big January update ahead. Stay tuned until then.
