Dallas Fuel: The DPS Problem

With OWL Season two quickly approaching, Dallas fuel has made roster changes to improve from last season. With Dallas Fuel’s pickups of Zachary “ZachaREEE” Lombardo, people are wondering, “Why no flex DPS?”.

“Dallas Already Has Three Hitscan Players”

The Dallas Fuel have three primarily hitscan players in Hyeon “Effect” Hwang, the Tracer player, and Timo “Taimou” Kettunen and Dylan “aKm” Bignet, the Widowmaker players. Dallas also picked up ZachaREEE, a primarily hitscan player, leading people to think it was a bad decision. What people don’t understand is these players’ flexibility between the four of them.

They Can Do More Than Just Hitscan

All of these DPS players have played more than hitscan in professional play. To list a few examples, aKm plays Pharah and Genji, his Pharah is something to be reckoned with. aKm played Pharah on attack Numbani a couple of times, and on Kings Row defense. However, his Genji is not as good, that is where we got the famous “aKm blade” unit of time; we hope he is not put into that position ever again.

Taimou has played Junkrat and Roadhog. Taimou played Junkrat defense way back in stage one of OWL season one, as well as Roadhog in a number of games and in the Overwatch World Cup. While Taimou is best at Widowmaker and McCree, he is also capable on other heroes.

Effect plays everything. During OWL season one, Effect played Widowmaker, McCree, Tracer, Pharah, Genji, Zarya and even Doomfist. In season one, Effect was the carry for the team when they were in their darkest times, and flexed to whatever the team needed.

In Defense of ZachaREEE

Many people consider Zachary a hitscan player, when he has played so many characters during his time with Fusion University. This was especially the case in season two of Overwatch Contenders, where the team went undefeated. His former teammate “Elk” had this to say:

Most people think he is a hitscan player because of his Overwatch World Cup performance, where he played Bastion, Sombra and Widowmaker. To end the discussion of Zachary’s flexibility, we will just have to wait and see.

The Unconventional Methods of Dallas

While not having a strictly projectile DPS like Hydration or Agilities, the Dallas Fuel have all the parts they need. Between all of their DPS, two can flex to almost anything, and two can flex to a few specific heroes. Zachary may turn into the strictly projectile DPS that other teams have, but it doesn’t say anywhere that teams need to have that setup. Some people might think that the Dallas Fuel have a DPS problem, but experienced coaches like Aero and Jayne often times know what they are doing.
