Cubs trade for Brandon Kintzler from Nationals

The Chicago Cubs have traded for Brandon Kintzler of the Washington Nationals on Tuesday according to MLB.com’s Jon Morosi.

Kintzler is a 33-year-old reliever who has a 3.59 ERA in 45 appearances this season. The Cubs will use Kintzler to strengthen their bullpen. They rank third overall in bullpen ERA at 3.21.

With the acquisition, the Cubs will be looking to contend for a World Series, as they sit atop the NL Central standings.

The Nationals will receive right-handed pitcher Jhon Romero from the Cubs in the deal. The 23-year-old has a 3.27 ERA in High-A ball this season.
