IEM Katowice 2019 Major MVP

IEM Katowice 2019 Major MVP

This past Sunday the grand finals of the IEM Katowice 2019 Major took place. The number one team in the world Astralis faced the Cinderella story ENCE. However, they would be no match for the dynasty that is Astralis. Astralis would swiftly beat ENCE 2-0, making them back to back Major champions. They now are considered the best team of all time.

Who Won MVP?

After the grand final, an MVP must be named. With a talented and star filled roster, it was not clear who would be taking home the award. Many thought it was going to be Andreas “Xyp9x” Højsleth. He proved to be clutch by winning many one versus one scenarios for his team. However, in the end Emil “Magisk” Reif was awarded the MVP. This is Magisk’s second MVP award, as he received his first at the BLAST Pro Series Lisbon 2018.

Magisk finished with a 1.28 rating at the IEM Katowice 2019 Major along with a +61 +/-. He really started to shine during the playoff stage of the tournament. Magisk finished with a 1.94 rating on the first map versus Ninjas in Pyjamas and a 1.12 on the final map. He was starting to hit his stride and was playing with utter confidence. In the series versus MIBR, Magisk finished with a 1.37 rating for the first map and a 1.52 rating in the second map.

The Final

After sweeping both MIBR and NiP. Astralis was set to face the underdogs of ENCE. The first map of the series was fairly close. The map was Train, and with the fragging power of Magisk Astralis won 16-11. Magisk finished with 23 frags and a 1.21 rating on Train. Magisk and his team were just one map away from taking home the trophy. The next map was Inferno, and it was on this map that every player for Astralis played phenomenally. The whole team were close in kills and no one specifically carried them during the second map. Astralis would win 16-4 with Magisk dropping 15 kills and a 1.37 rating.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Magisk got what he deserved, and this MVP award could not have gone to anyone else but him. His stats over the course of this event were outstanding. Astralis and Magisk are still dominating the Counter-Strike world and there seems to be no way of stopping them. Congratulations to Astralis and congratulations to Magisk on taking home the event MVP.
