Paul George has told the Thunder that he will not opt into his contract for next season with the Oklahoma City Thunder according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
George will now be a free agent and be able to sign with any team. The move does not have to be official until 11:59 p.m. EST on Friday, June 29.
According to Wojnarowski, this does not necessarily mean that George will leave the Thunder as Russell Westbrook and co. have made a good case for him to stay. He will also reportedly consider the Los Angeles Lakers among other teams.
The Pacers traded George to the Thunder before last season for Domantas Sabonis and Victor Oladipo. With the trade, the Thunder were hoping to use the season to convince George to stay in Oklahoma City for the long haul.
