The bowl season gives fans and scouts alike a chance to analyze NFL Draft prospects against solid competition. The bowl season schedule allows all eyes to be on each game. Here are the NFL Draft prospects in the 2019 Outback Bowl.

Mississippi State Bulldogs Prospects

Jeffery Simmons, DT

Simmons has been a star for two seasons at Mississippi State and is now a junior. He has 159 total tackles, 30.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, one touchdown, seven passes defended, two fumble recoveries and five forced fumbles. This season, Simmons has 59 total tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, one sack, four passes defended and one forced fumble.

At 6-foot-4 and 300 pounds, Simmons uses his athleticism rather than strength to win at the point of attack. He will be drafted very early in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Projected draft range: Top 15 pick

Montez Sweat, DE

Sweat started his career at Michigan State, but produced on the field at Mississippi State these last few seasons. In his career, he has 103 total tackles, 30 tackles for loss, 23 sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. As a senior, he has 51 total tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks and one forced fumble.

He is 6-foot-6 and 245 pounds, which will allow him to look the part of an NFL defensive end. Sweat could be selected in the first round if he tests well.

Projected draft range: First round-second round

Johnathan Abram, S

Abram was a Georgia Bulldog before producing at Mississippi State these last two seasons. With 189 total tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, two interceptions, five passes defended, one fumble recovery and three forced fumbles, he has had a solid career. This season, he has 93 total tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, two interceptions, five passes defended, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble.

He stands 6-foot and 215 pounds, which is good by NFL standards. Abram will be one of the top safeties off the board this draft.

Projected draft range: Second round-third round

Iowa Hawkeyes Prospects

*Tight end Noah Fant will sit out this bowl game to prepare for the NFL Draft. He is projected to be drafted in the first or second round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Anthony Nelson, DE

Nelson has continually gotten better over his time at Iowa and could leave early to pursue the NFL. At Iowa, he has 115 total tackles, 28.5 tackles for loss, 23 sacks, seven passes defended, one fumble recovery, one touchdown and one forced fumble. In 2018, Nelson has 41 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, one pass defended, one fumble recovery and one tight end.

At 6-foot-7 and 271 pounds, Nelson is massive. With his size, Nelson could be a prospect that rises as the draft gets closer.

Projected draft range: Third round-fifth round

T.J. Hockenson, TE

Fant gets all the NFL Draft media attention, but Hockenson was more productive and won the Mackey Award as college football’s top tight end. The redshirt sophomore has 70 catches for 1,037 yards and nine touchdowns at Iowa. This year he has 46 catches for 717 yards and six touchdowns.

He has decent size at 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds. Hockenson may decide to leave early and should get more media attention if he does.

Projected draft range: Fourth round-sixth round
