The bowl season gives fans and scouts alike a chance to analyze NFL Draft prospects against solid competition. The bowl season schedule allows all eyes to be on each game. Here are the NFL Draft prospects in the 2018 Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl.
North Carolina A&T Aggies Prospects
Marquell Cartwright, RB
Cartwright has had two straight seasons of rushing for over 1,000 yards for the Aggies. This season he has rushed for 1,044 yards and seven touchdowns. He has 2,822 career rushing yards and 32 touchdowns on 5.0 yards per carry. He hasn’t been too much of a receiving threat over his four seasons and has 250 receiving yards and two touchdown catches in his career.
At 5-foot-8 and 203 pounds, Cartwright is well built for his size, but still a little shy of the mark for the NFL. Because he isn’t the best receiver out of the backfield, it limits his draft potential.
Projected draft range: Undrafted free agent
Darryl Johnson, DE
Johnson has been a great pass rusher for NC A&T this season. He has registered 10.5 sacks, which has helped him become the MEAC Defensive Player of the Year. Although he hasn’t faced the best competition while at NC A&T, a pass rusher that registers double-digit sacks and becomes the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year deserves some NFL looks.
While his height is good at 6-foot-5, he is a little slender for a defensive end at 231 pounds. He is still a junior, so he may be best off if he goes back to school for his senior season and adds some muscle onto his frame.
Projected draft range: Undrafted free agent
Alcorn State Braves Prospects
P.J. Simmons, RB
He is the third leading rusher on the team, but Simmons has some talent. He started his career at Kent State before transferring to Alcorn State. He has 729 rushing yards on 5.2 yards per carry this season. In his career, he has 1,492 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns on 6.4 yards per carry. He hasn’t been afforded a great chance at Alcorn State to show his receiving skills, but when he was at Kent State, he recorded 17 receptions for 115 yards through one season.
Simmons is 5-foot-10 and 191 pounds, which is a little undersized. With his receiving skills though, he could be a useful third-down running back if he makes a roster.
Projected draft range: Undrafted free agent
Raidarious Anderson, WR
Anderson is the leading receiver for the Braves this season with 32 receptions for 502 yards and three touchdowns. This has been a breakout season of sorts for Anderson, as he had just 186 receiving yards and one touchdown before this season.
The most intriguing thing about Anderson is his size. At 6-foot-5 and 198 pounds, if he adds some muscle, he could be one of the biggest receivers in the NFL. His red zone production will need to increase, but Anderson certainly has potential, as he is only a junior.
Projected draft range: Undrafted free agent
