NFL Draft prospects in the 2017 Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl

Publish Date: December 21, 2017

Florida International and Temple play in the 2017 Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl. Some NFL players have come out of these programs before so this game is worth checking out for NFL talent. T.Y. Hilton went to FIU, while Haason Reddick was drafted at number 13 overall out of Temple. Here are the best NFL Draft prospects in this year’s game:

Temple Owls

Sean Chandler, S

Chandler has 74 total tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, three passes defended, a forced fumble and a fumble recovered. He has gotten significant playing time since his freshman year. Chandler figures to be a free safety in the NFL and may get selected in the early rounds.

He has decent size at 6’0” and 195 pounds. He will need to add muscle to his frame to be able to deal with the grind of the NFL. Chandler has a step up on a lot of other players because he has experience playing special teams. He can return punts as well as do kick off coverage. In the NFL, he could see the field early based on his special teams play.

Projected draft range: 2nd round-5th round

Ventell Bryant, WR

He is only a junior, but Bryant has great talent. The problem for Bryant is that he didn’t produce this season. Bryant has had to deal with inconsistent quarterback play this season, which is one of many reasons for a lack of production. In 2017 he has 273 receiving yards, but last season he finished with 895 yards.

Bryant has great size at 6’3” and 200 pounds. He will need to add play strength for the NFL level. His measurables and past production will be what gets him drafted if he decides to leave school early. Bryant is currently questionable for this game with a leg injury.

Projected draft range: 5th round-7th round

Florida International Panthers

Alex McGough, QB

McGough is another player who brings tons of experience to the table, playing in games for four straight years during his time at FIU. He has 9,084 passing yards, 65 touchdowns and 37 interceptions in his career. In his sophomore and senior campaigns, he showed great efficiency by completing over 64% of his passes in those years.

Height won’t be an issue as McGough is 6’3”. He may need to add some weight to his 218-pound frame. His NFL Draft prospects aren’t great, but he should be able to sign with a team as an undrafted free agent.

Projected draft range: undrafted free agent
