The Seattle Mariners have traded with the Miami Marlins for outfielder Cameron Maybin according to Ryan Divish.
Seattle is 20 games above .500 and wanted to shore up their outfield at the deadline. Maybin is hitting .251 with three home runs and 20 RBIs in 99 games. He figures to fill in at center field and will provide some offense to the position.
This move means Dee Gordon will stay at second base, even when Robinson Cano returns from suspension. Gordon had played center field to start the season. When Cano was suspended, Gordon moved over to second base.
The Marlins have become certified sellers, which started in the offseason and has continued up to the deadline. Miami is rebuilding and has traded away Brad Ziegler and Maybin on deadline day.
According to Bob Nightengale, the Mariners will send a fringe prospect and international money to the Marlins.
The fringe prospect will be Bryson Brigman, a minor league infielder currently in high-A ball according to Ken Rosenthal.
