Fantasy football: Players to add for week 6

Publish Date: October 9, 2018

It is six weeks into the fantasy football season and the waiver wire is heating up. Any good champion will need to go to the waiver wire to acquire players to make their team even better. Here are the best players to add for week 6. (All stats and rankings are for standard, non-decimal scoring)

1. Corey Clement, RB, Philadelphia Eagles

As players get injured, others are primed to get plenty of opportunities. With Jay Ajayi going down with a torn ACL, other running backs will be getting carries. Corey Clement tops the list of players who should benefit in a fantasy sense.

In the one game that Clement was the lead back, he got 16 carries. Since then he has been injured, but as the number two back on the depth chart who will get a lot of usage, Clement should be added in every fantasy format. Through three games played he has 22 fantasy points. He is owned in 28.2% of ESPN Leagues and will be fought over in almost every league’s waiver wire.

2. Alfred Morris, RB, San Francisco 49ers

Another injury has opened up playing time for Alfred Morris. Matt Breida was playing like one of the best backs in the league, but has been banged up with injuries. He had to leave the game against the Cardinals with a mid-ankle sprain and is doubtful for Monday night. For at least one week Morris should be picked up and possibly played.

Morris got a heavy dose of carries to start the season for a backup, but was starting to be phased out as Breida found continued success. Still though, he has 30 fantasy points over five games and with an increased number of touches on Monday should still produce. If Breida is unable to stay healthy throughout the year, then Morris’ shelf-life will be extended. He is owned in just under half of ESPN leagues at the moment.

3. Wendell Smallwood, RB, Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles have a banged up backfield and that actually includes Clement. Wendell Smallwood and Clement both will get a lot of work with Ajayi out when Clement is 100% healthy. Smallwood has produced, especially this past week when Ajayi went down.

He has seen action in four games so far and has totaled 32 fantasy points. Smallwood offers versatility, as he has 15 receptions and one touchdown catch this season. He is owned in 7.7% of leagues and if Clement is still banged up, is the running back to play.

4. Keke Coutee, WR, Houston Texans

He was on this list last week and, if he hasn’t been already, should be added to rosters in almost every league. The rookie receiver has 21 points through his first two NFL games and has stayed consistent with double-digit games in both appearances.

Coutee is going to be used a lot, that much is clear. He has 17 receptions in two games. With Will Fuller struggling to stay healthy, there is a possibility that Coutee’s value could go up if Fuller continues to struggle with injuries. Coutee is available in over 80% of ESPN leagues.

5. Marques Valdes-Scantling, WR, Green Bay Packers

Randall Cobb and Geronimo Allison were both inactive in week 5. With the injuries to the Green Bay receiving corps, Valdes-Scantling stepped up against the Lions. He finished with seven receptions for 68 yards and a touchdown.

Monitor the health of the other receivers in Green Bay. If one or more are out, MVS is worth the pickup and possibly a start in some lineups. He is available in virtually every league on ESPN and should be added to any team that needs a bench receiver.
