Another week is in the books and the good games kept coming. With all of the upsets, this year’s College Football Playoff selection committee will have their work cut out for them. Their rankings will come out Tuesday. Here is how they should rank the teams if the season ended today in College Football Playoff Bracketology 11/ 25/18.

Note: These rankings are a projection of how the CFP Committee will rank the teams.

CFP Four

1. Alabama Crimson Tide (12-0)

Alabama finished off their great regular season by beating their rival Auburn easily. They will be the number one team again when Tuesday’s College Football Playoff rankings are released. Even with a loss to Georgia in the SEC Championship, the Crimson Tide still have a good chance at making the CFP.

This week: vs. Georgia Bulldogs

2. Clemson Tigers (12-0)

The Tigers also capped off an undefeated regular season with their win over rival South Carolina. They likely won’t be able to move up in the rankings as a result of the ACC having a down year. There won’t be much chance for improvement of their resume in the ACC Championship Game either, as Pittsburgh lost their fifth game of the season to Miami.

This week: vs. Pittsburgh Panthers

3. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (12-0)

Notre Dame is 12-0 and now gets to wait one more weekend for the official announcement that they are in the College Football Playoff. It was a tough fought game with USC, but the Fighting Irish shouldn’t have anything to worry about.

4. Georgia Bulldogs (11-1)

There were no problems for Georgia on rivalry week, as they defeated Georgia Tech 45-21. The Bulldogs move up in the rankings to the top four because of Michigan’s loss to Ohio State. It’s really simple for Georgia, as if they win the SEC they are in, while a loss will likely leave them in a New Year’s Six Bowl Game.

This week: vs. Alabama Crimson Tide

First Four Out

5. Oklahoma Sooners (11-1)

Oklahoma got a solid win over West Virginia to keep them in the Big 12 Championship Game and the CFP picture. Their defense still may give the committee pause, although their offense has been good enough to get them this far. They’ll have to avenge their only loss this week and hope Ohio State and Georgia loses. If that doesn’t happen it will be in the committee’s hands.

This week: vs. Texas Longhorns

6. Ohio State Buckeyes (11-1)

This is the same team that almost lost to Maryland, right? Somehow the Buckeyes regrouped and shredded the number one defense in the country. Ohio State’s defense is still subpar and the Buckeyes were ranked number 10 last week, but they got a statement win. If they can win the Big Ten Championship Game and get some help, they could make the College Football Playoff.

This week: vs. Northwestern Wildcats

7. Michigan Wolverines (10-2)

Michigan’s CFP hopes were ruined by Ohio State. They will make another New Year’s Six Bowl Game, but they were hoping for more.

8. UCF Knights (11-0)

Another perfect regular season was finished off when the Knights won the War for I-4. The problem is that they lost McKenzie Milton to an ankle injury. With the committee being able to take the injury into account, UCF’s slight playoff chances are not looking good. They will get a bid to go to a New Year’s Six Bowl Game if they beat Memphis in the AAC Championship Game.

This week: Memphis Tigers

Next Four Out

9. LSU Tigers (9-3)

LSU would need utter chaos to get into the CFP with three losses, but they have been ranked the seventh best team in the country with two losses and will likely not fall too far after losing to Texas A&M. They’ll be waiting intently to find out if they can still get a New Year’s Six Bowl Game invitation.

9. Washington State Cougars (10-2)

The Pac-12’s playoff chances were dashed when Washington beat Washington State in the Apple Cup. Still, the Cougars are in a good position to be invited to a New Year’s Six Bowl Game.

11. Florida Gators (9-3)

Florida got a win over Florida State to help their case for a New Year’s Six Bowl Game. Since they were 11th last week, they will likely be ranked similarly this week. They’ll be hoping that no major upsets happen in the conference championships, so that they can preserve a top 12 spot and a spot in a New Year’s Six Bowl Game.

12. Penn State Nittany Lions (9-3)

The Nittany Lions are right on the fringe of New Year’s Six contention at number 12. While beating Maryland doesn’t really help their case a lot, they were ranked 12th last week and will likely stand pat.
