Chris Archer sent to the Pirates from the Rays

The Tampa Bay Rays have traded Chris Archer to the Pittsburgh Pirates for Tyler Glasnow, Austin Meadows and a player to be named later on Tuesday according to multiple reports.

Pittsburgh was in the market for a starting pitcher and got arguably the best one on the market. Archer has a 4.31 ERA with a 3-5 record this season. He has a history of being an ace, but will be a huge part of the Pirates’ rotation going forward.

The Pirates are 55-52 on the season and with the acquisition of Archer, are serious about making the playoffs this season.

Tampa Bay got back a few notable names in return for Archer. Glasnow has a 4.79 ERA this season for the Pirates, but was regarded as a good prospect. Meadows is an outfielder who has hit .292 in his first season in the big leagues for the Pirates.

The Rays traded away a lot before the deadline. With the acquisitions of Glasnow and Meadows they are focused on the future.
