The 2019 NFL Draft is this month, which means that The Game Haus will be doing draft profiles for every team. Each NFL team will be looked at heading into this year’s draft including what their needs are and who they could be targeting. The Baltimore Ravens will be the 21st team evaluated.

Summary

Baltimore made the playoffs last season, but lost to the Chargers in the Wild Card Round. They won the AFC North with a 10-6 record. Although there were some calling for him to be fired, John Harbaugh is going to be back for the 2019 season.

The offense averaged 24.3 points per game, which ranked 13th in the NFL. Joe Flacco started the season at quarterback and was the main reason the Ravens finished the season at 222.4 passing yards per game. John Brown led a lackluster group of receivers with 715 receiving yards. Lamar Jackson took over and made it more of an offense based on the run. Jackson and a stable of running backs including Alex Collins and Gus Edwards helped the offense rush for 152.6 yards per game, which ranked second in the NFL. The offensive line was solid, but could use some improvements for the future. Flacco was traded to the Broncos, Brown was signed by the Bills and Collins is still a free agent. Mark Ingram was signed to fortify the running game.

The Ravens’ defense was great once again, allowing 17.9 points per game which ranked second in the NFL. Their defensive line was solid on their 3-4 front, with Michael Pierce leading the way at nose tackle. Za’Darius Smith and Terrell Suggs were good at the outside linebacker spots, while C.J. Mosley manning one of the inside linebacker spots well. Mosley led the team with 105 tackles and Smith led the team with 8.5 sacks. Marlon Humphrey and Jimmy Smith were quality corners, while Tony Jefferson and Eric Weddle were good safeties. There was a mass exodus on defense with Weddle going to the Rams, Mosley signing with the Jets, Suggs joining the Cardinals and Za’Darius Smith going to the Packers. Earl Thomas was added to give them a great safety, but more upgrades will be needed to make the defense a quality one again.

2019 NFL Draft Picks

Baltimore has eight picks in the 2019 NFL Draft.

First Round (one pick): No. 22

Third Round (two picks): No. 85, No. 102

Fourth Round (two picks): No. 113, No. 123

Fifth Round (one pick): No. 160

Sixth Round (two picks): No. 191, No. 193

Team Needs

Wide Receiver- There aren’t many great wide receivers on the team, which limits Jackson’s ability to grow.

Offensive Guard/Center- They have nice young players at tackle and Marshall Yanda at one guard spot, but need more good interior line play.

Edge Rusher/Outside Linebacker- The loss of Za’Darius Smith and Terrell Suggs is huge. They need some semblance of a pass rush next year.

Inside Linebacker- Mosley was the leader of the defense and won’t be easy to replace. They’ll need an impact player or two in the middle to make the defense great again.

2019 NFL Targets

First Round:

Pick No. 22: Clelin Ferrell, Edge Rusher, Clemson

Ferrell was a productive edge rusher at Clemson and could be a good value pick later in the first round for the Ravens. He had 11.5 sacks last season for the Tigers. Without Suggs and Smith for next season, Baltimore has to find a way to get after the quarterback, or they won’t be able to make the playoffs.

Third Round: 

Pick No. 85: Michael Jordan, OG/C, Ohio State

To improve the running game even further, the Ravens need to get one interior lineman who can start for them from day one. Jordan can play either center or guard, but likely is a better fit at guard. Their line would be really good with the addition and should also help with the development of Jackson as a pocket passer.

Pick No. 102: Riley Ridley, WR, Georgia

Baltimore has a bad group of receivers and need to get some playmakers to make the offense more dynamic. Ridley is the younger brother of Atlanta Falcons receiver Calvin Ridley, who was selected in the first round of last year’s draft. He is very athletic and could develop into a solid wide receiver for the Ravens, especially for getting him in the third round.
