The Atlanta Braves have received Kevin Gausman and Darren O’Day in return for Jean Carlos Encarnacion, Brett Cumberland, Evan Phillips and Bruce Zimmerman from the Baltimore Orioles.
Atlanta wanted another starting pitcher to bolster their rotation and got the deal in for Gausman. Gausman is 5-8 with a 4.43 ERA this season for the Orioles. O’Day will help the bullpen when he returns from the 60-day DL after recovering from hamstring surgery. Before the surgery, he had a 3.60 ERA this year.
The Braves are tied for 10th in MLB with a 3.88 ERA. Gausman will be expected to help that out and get the Braves to the playoffs this season. They currently sit in second place in the NL East.
Baltimore started their rebuild by sending Manny Machado to the Dodgers. They got four prospects and young players from the Braves in the deal. In addition to the players they were given $2.5 million in international pool money.
