Colts Sign Justin Houston

Colts Sign Justin Houston

Former Chiefs outside linebacker, Justin Houston, has agreed to terms with the Indianapolis Colts.

Houston’s contract will consist of $24 million over the span of two years. ESPN’s Adam Schefter recently reported via Twitter.

Houston was released by the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this offseason. The edge rusher gathered much interest in his time in free agency. But, ultimately the Colts were the team to close the deal.

Houston’s Career

Houston was recently released by the Chiefs after the team failed to find a team to trade for him. The Chiefs may not have gotten anything in return for their longtime superstar, but the team did save $14 million in cap space due to his release.

The 30-year-old linebacker spent eight seasons with Chiefs after being selected in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft. In this time, Houston racked up a total 78.5 sacks along with 381 combined tackles. This earned the edge rusher four Pro-Bowl selections and one First-Team All-Pro honor.

In 2014, Houston led the league in sacks with 22, just 0.5 away from tying the all-time season sack record. In the 2018 campaign, Houston showed no signs of slowing down as he finished with a total of 9.5 sacks and five forced fumbles. The productivity that Houston has shown year after year, proves he is consistently an elite pass rusher.

The Colts have approximately $77 million in cap space. In need of a pass rusher, they made the right move to spend the money, and invest in a veteran. Houston’s experience will pair well with the Colts’ young defense, and progress the development of a very talented linebacker core.
