Top Dual Threat QBs

Terrance SingletonBy Terrance SingletonDecember 19, 20155 Mins Read

One of, if not, the most important position on the football field is the QB. In the last twenty years or so it has changed from the 6’4” 235 pound QB who is almost a statue in the pocket to the 6’1 200 pound QB who can beat you with their arm and their legs. These Dual Threat QB’s can thank Frank Beamer for taking a chance on Mike Vick, the Godfather of the Spread QB. These are the Top 5 Dual Threat QB of the class of 2016, according to ESPN.

ESPN #1 QB-DT Recruit (Ole Miss Commit): IMG Academy, Bradenton, Florida- Shea Patterson is the current Elite 11 MVP. Patterson played his senior season at one of the most talented high schools in the nation, IMG Academy. At IMG he is being coached by some former pros, something every high school kids wishes they had at their disposal. Patterson has the arm strength and the accuracy to play at the collegiate level. He uses his legs more to create time and extend the play instead of getting his own yardage, but he can definitely get into your second level and make some moves. He has learned to keep his eyes down the field and give the ball to his playermakers like, Isaac Nauta, the number one TE in the nation according to ESPN. Ole Miss fans you have a great QB on your hands and he will get The Grove and Vaught-Hemingway Stadium rocking on Saturdays.

ESPN #2 QB-DT Recruit (Florida State Commit): Long Beach Polytechnic High School, Long Beach, California- Malik Henry is an Elite 11 Alumni. This young man has great tangible skills. He throws with anticipation, he has a great deep ball and he makes the game come to him. He is super elusive in the pocket and can definitely threaten the goal line once he escapes the pocket. But what I really love about Mr. Malik Henry is his intangibles. He walks in the huddle and you know it’s his offense and it’s not because he is super loud and in your face, it’s because of his composure. He never gets too high or too low. He is a Silent Killer. One of his go-to receivers is Lohia Marks, who shows great hands and great route running skills. FSU should not worry about the offense if it’s the hands of Chief Malik Henry.

ESPN #3 QB-DT Recruit (University of Southern California Commit): Glendora High School, Glendora, California- Matt Fink is an Under Armour All-American. Fink is what you think when you think Southern California. He has great hair, he probably got the nickname “Sunshine” from many of his teammates and friends. But behind his great flow, is a great QB. He has a cannon of an arm, shows great pocket awareness, and once he hits his stride no one seems to catch up with him. He can go from shotgun and under the center. Like all of these QBs he loves to compete and he is ready for the spotlight at USC. Another great player at Glendora High is Michael Lowe Jr. and great two-way player better knew for his ball hawking ability on the defensive side of the ball. Fight on SC!

ESPN #4 QB-DT Recruit (Auburn Commit): West Orange High School, Winter Garden, Florida- Woody Barrett is an Under Armour All-American. According to the his Hudl, he accounted for 43 total touchdowns. Barrett is a homerun hitter with legs and can throw the deep ball with accuracy down the field. He fits the exactly what Auburn wants from their QB shows great accuracy anywhere on the field and can burn your whole defense. And with his 6’3” 225 pound frame he can give out some of his own punishment to any defender trying to take him down, but will also just make defenders look foolish trying to tackle him in open space. And what’s a QB without a great left tackle and Barrett has a great one in Stone Forsythe. War Eagle!

ESPN #5 QB-DT Recruit (Tennessee Commit): Bergen Catholic High, Oradell, New Jersey- Jarrett Guarantano is an Elite 11 Alumni. According to his Hudl in six games, he completed 72% of passes and accounted for 20 touchdowns. This young man is a baller he goes hard every down and every game. He is all about winning. Even during his senior season where some top recruits would just coast into the next level, Guarantano is diving into the endzone. Maybe Tennessee does not want to see that right now, but they have to love the fire in this young man. Beside being a great competitor, he is an even better QB. He throws with amazing touch and can also put the burners on and take it to the house with his legs. One of Guarantano’s great targets, Emmanuel Appiah is also a great player at the CB position. The fans at Neyland Stadium better get those singing voices ready to sing Rocky Top all Saturday with this QB behind center in the near future.
