Top 25 College Football Quarterbacks

The college football season is approaching. There is always debate over ranking the best players in the sport. Here are the top 25 college football quarterbacks heading into the 2025 season.

Note: There is some projection in these rankings for the upcoming season. These are not NFL Draft rankings, but rather focus on the best players in college football.

25. Demond Williams, Washington Huskies

Williams played down the stretch for the Huskies, passing for eight touchdowns and one interception. Washington has some solid players around him to help him put up numbers this season. 

24. Julian Sayin, Ohio State Buckeyes

Sayin is a former coveted recruit who passed for 84 yards and a touchdown last season. He’ll be throwing to the best receiver in the country, Jeremiah Smith, and should be able to have a solid first season as a starter for the Buckeyes. 

23. Behren Morton, Texas Tech Red Raiders

Morton has improved every season he has been at Texas Tech. Last season he passed for 3,335 yards, 27 touchdowns and eight interceptions on 63.3 percent completion. With Texas Tech improving its roster a lot this season, Morton can lead the team to competitiveness in the Big 12. 

22. Miller Moss, Louisville Cardinals

Moss was benched at USC, but played decently with 2,555 yards, 18 touchdowns and nine interceptions on 64.4 percent completion. Jeff Brohm has done well with quarterbacks over his career, so a big year for Moss should be incoming. 

21. Josh Hoover, TCU Horned Frogs

Hoover had two NFL receivers last season and took advantage. He passed for 3,949 yards, 27 touchdowns and 11 interceptions on 66.5 percent completion.

20. Sawyer Robertson, Baylor Bears 

Baylor was better than expected last season and a lot of that was due to Robertson. He passed for 3,071 yards, 28 touchdowns and eight interceptions on 62.2 percent completion. 

19. Avery Johnson, Kansas State Wildcats

Johnson played solidly in his first year as a starter. The dual-threat accounted for over 3,300 yards last season and will have a chance to compete in the Big 12. 

18. Dylan Raiola, Nebraska Cornhuskers

Raiola passed for 2,819 yards, 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions on 67.8 percent completion as a true freshman. Nebraska has acquired more players to help him grow, but Raiola has a great start to his career. 

17. Nico Iamaleava, UCLA Bruins

Iamaleava leaving Tennessee was dramatic and now he is in a worse situation at UCLA. He still showed some good play last season, as he had 2,616 yards, 19 touchdowns and five interceptions on 63.8 percent completion. 

16. Luke Altmyer, Illinois Fighting Illini

Altmyer totaled 2,717 passing yards, 22 touchdowns and six interceptions on 60.8 percent completion and helped Illinois win 10 games. In an offense that likes to run the ball, Altmyer can do what is needed to help Illinois win a lot of games this season.

15. Taylen Green, Arkansas Razorbacks

Green has great dual-threat abilities and did well in his first season for Arkansas after transferring in from Boise State. He passed for 3,154 yards and rushed for 602 as well.  

14. Fernando Mendoza, Indiana Hoosiers

Mendoza passed for 3,004 yards, 16 touchdowns and six interceptions on 68.7 percent completion. He will provide efficiency in the Indiana offense this season and will be aided by a good receiver, Elijah Sarratt. 

13. Rocco Becht, Iowa State Cyclones

Becht has had two solid seasons in a row for the Cyclones. In 2024, he passed for 3,505 yards, 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions on 59.4 percent completion. He can show some progression this year, even with his two favorite targets entering the NFL Draft this offseason. 

12. Diego Pavia, Vanderbilt Commodores

While he only passed for 2,293 yards, Pavia also rushed for 801 yards. He helped Vanderbilt pull off some big wins and has a good grasp on running RPOs. 

11. Devon Dampier, Utah Utes

Dampier was productive in the Mountain West for New Mexico. He passed for 2,768 yards and also rushed for 1,166 yards. His dual-threat abilities are some of the best in the country and he’ll be behind one of the best offensive lines.

10. Kevin Jennings, SMU Mustangs

Jennings didn’t even start last season as the starter, but finished with 3,245 passing yards, 23 touchdowns and 11 interceptions on 65 percent completion. He led the Mustangs to the CFP last season and has some good weapons to use this season as well. 

9. Carson Beck, Miami Hurricanes

Beck played well in 2023, then struggled in 2024 before getting injured at the end of the season. If he can be as efficient as 2023, and protect the football, Beck can recoup some of the draft stock lost last season. 

8. Sam Leavitt, Arizona State Sun Devils

A lot of the publicity for Arizona State’s run to the CFP went to Cam Skattebo, but Leavitt played well too. He passed for 2,885 yards, 24 touchdowns and six interceptions on 61.7 percent completion. More will be asked of him, but the Sun Devils have a lot of players returning, including top receiver Jordyn Tyson. 

7. John Mateer, Oklahoma Sooners

Mateer was a fun watch at Washington State last season, where he totaled 3,139 passing yards, 29 touchdowns and seven interceptions on 64.9 percent completion. A lot of pressure will be on him to perform at the SEC level, but Mateer’s playmaking instincts and teammates can help him move the chains. 

6. LaNorris Sellers, South Carolina

Passing for 2,534 yards, 18 touchdowns and seven interceptions on 65.6 percent completion is nice, but Sellers also rushed for 674 yards and seven scores. Finding a little more consistency through the air will be necessary, but Sellers is in a great spot to improve this season, which will help the team and his NFL Draft stock.

5. DJ Lagway, Florida Gators

Lagway was able to get some experience as a freshman, passing for 1,915 yards, 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions on 59.9 percent completion. Florida has skill position players with some skill to help him take a step forward and all the tools are there for a big sophomore season. 

4. Arch Manning, Texas Longhorns

Manning has played great in limited time so far in his career, with 969 passing yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions on 67.8 percent completion. This is a bit of projection, but Manning will have talent around him to help him develop. 

3. Drew Allar, Penn State Nittany Lions

While he could’ve declared for the 2025 NFL Draft and been selected early, Allar decided to return to school for another year. He passed for 3,327 yards, 24 touchdowns and eight interceptions on 66.5 percent completion. Penn State has a much-improved receiving core this year and Penn State has hopes of a national championship. 

2. Cade Klubnik, Clemson Tigers

Klubnik was solid before 2024, but took a huge leap to help his stock. He had 3,639 passing yards, 36 touchdowns and six interceptions on 63.4 percent completion. Klubnik also found success with his legs, rushing for 463 yards. A trip back to the CFP is expected and personal success should also be on the docket with the receiving core he will be able to use. 

1. Garrett Nussmeier, LSU Tigers

Nussmeier waited his turn at LSU and finally got his chance to shine last season. He passed for 4,052 yards, 29 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, which has given him some hype going into this season. Nussmeier will have plenty of talent around him to improve on those numbers this season.
