EA Sports released a college football video game for the first time since 2013 this season. They did a great job navigating getting thousands of players in the game and making a game that felt authentic to college football. There are a few things they can add to their next EA Sports College Football game.
Trophy Case
In NCAA 14, there was a trophy case for every user. This kept track of all rivalry trophies, player trophies and postseason trophies for the user. The trophy case kept track of the achievements across dynasties. Putting this back in the game would help users track who they had won what awards and championships within dynasty mode.
Dynasty History Tab
While the trophy case would be for a user, the dynasty history tab could be accessed in dynasty mode. After advancing to a new season, players who graduate are removed from the game and unless they break records, they won’t be remembered. The dynasty history tab would allow you to see stats and who won what games in each season of the dynasty.
Coaching Carousel Update
In dynasty mode, it can be hard to move jobs in College Football 25. There are usually a few teams interested in a coach if they did well, but it doesn’t match a real-life feel. A coach could win multiple championships at a smaller school, or one with less prestige, and there will be limited job offers, including ones that aren’t really an upgrade. In the next game, it would be nice to see a coaching carousel much like they had in NCAA 14.
An Update to Wear and Tear
A wear and tear system was implemented into this year’s game to give a more real-life look into how getting hit affects players. This can be turned off, but the idea is good. The execution could be better. A player can be hit lightly one time and the wear and tear meter goes down significantly. It is hard to get that player back to full health in that game, even if they aren’t injured. Their stats are also vastly decreased when there is wear and tear, to an unreasonable level. Making it so players can take more hits, but still have the effect of wear and tear over the course of a season or a game would make it better.
Companion App
In NCAA 14, players could log online to do their recruiting for online dynasties. This would be helpful these days in a companion app. Being able to check your dynasties from anywhere and having people recruit on bye weeks can help move dynasties along faster and keep players engaged.
NIL Influence
NIL is measured by brand exposure in dynasty mode. It is one of many things players consider when picking a school. That was a good start to get NIL’s influence in the game, but it would make things more realistic and fun if there was a way to have a budget to use for NIL or having to work with boosters to get more NIL funds. NIL money isn’t going anywhere, so improvements can be made over the next few seasons of the game’s release.
Other Changes
- More features in Road to Glory. They could include showing the dorm room like the old games, studying for tests that the user has to take and more.
- Graphics for all touchdowns. Currently, the only graphics are for a player scoring a pick-six.
- 134-team online dynasties. Some of us are sickos who would try to fill every FBS team.
- Get rid of the drumline music. College Football 25 has fight songs and the rights to other songs like “Mo Bamba”. They should get more rights to songs like “Enter Sandman”, but they should also make it the music for the menus.
- Bring back mascot games. We all want to play as the Stanford tree against the Orange from Syracuse.
- In dynasty mode, it tells that players improved, but not how much. Adding how many points they grew overall and for each category would help users see the progression.
- Some online dynasties move slowly. For instance, I’m in an online dynasty with a guy who is begging to do more of them, but he won’t play his games for days, leaving the rest of the users waiting on him. Maybe they can get around this by instituting an automatic advance after a certain amount of time. Especially when the guy holding things up is a commissioner in one of the leagues, making it impossible to advance until he is ready or force advances himself.
