There has been plenty of conference realignment in the last few years. In addition to teams joining new conferences, there are a couple of new teams joining the FBS level. Here are the new FBS teams in college football for 2023.
Jacksonville State moved from Division II to the FCS level (previously named Division I-AA) in 1996. The Alabama school is joining the C-USA conference for the 2023 season. They went 9-2 last season at the FCS level and have a familiar coach to the FBS level in Rich Rodriguez.
Sam Houston State has had a football team since 1912. They are moving up to the FBS from the FCS level, joining C-USA as well. The Bearkats were able to win an FCS National Championship in 2020. Last season the Bearkats won five games. Sam Houston State is located in Huntsville, Texas.
Kennesaw State will also be joining the FBS level next season. They will also be in the C-USA.
