The SEC has been forced to postpone two more games this weekend due to COVID-19. Alabama vs LSU and Texas A&M vs Tennessee have both been postponed. The outbreaks come from the LSU and Texas A&M programs.
The postponements join a third already postponed game for this weekend in Auburn vs Mississippi State. They are now the fifth and sixth games to be postponed in the SEC this season due to the pandemic.
The highly-anticipated LSU vs Alabama game was CBS’s Game of the Week set for 6 pm. LSU already has one game postponed due to COVID to December 12 against Florida. The SEC said games could also be postponed for December 19 for teams not going to the conference championship should it be necessary. At present time, both Florida and Alabama are slated to win their divisions.
COVID-19 has presented obstacles all over the SEC this week. Arkansas head coach contracted the virus earlier this week and has been doing meetings virtually. Auburn shut down team-related activities. And Missouri and Vanderbilt are still dealing with COVID roster issues.
“While it is unfortunate to have multiple postponements in the same week, we began the season with the understanding interruptions to the schedule were possible and we have remained focused throughout the season on the health of everyone around our programs,” said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey. “We must remain vigilant, within our programs and in our communities, to prevent the spread of the virus and to manage activities that contribute to these interruptions.”
LSU is next scheduled to play at Arkansas next week while Alabama is scheduled to host Kentucky. Texas A&M is supposed to host Ole Miss and Tennessee to play at Auburn. These games are all up in the air now as the teams follow SEC protocols. The weekend SEC schedule is now down to just four games.
