The University of Oklahoma announced the welcoming of former NFL running back DeMarco Murray onto their coaching staff, Monday. Head coach Lincoln Riley has brought the Oklahoma alumni in to coach the same position he played as.

Murray played for Oklahoma from 2007 to 2010. In that time, the running back rushed for a total of 3,685 yards for 50 touchdowns. In addition, Murray caught 157 passes for 1571 yards and 13 touchdowns. As a result, Murray is Oklahoma’s all purpose yards leader as well as the school’s touchdown leader.
After his time at Oklahoma, Murray spent seven years in the NFL. The running back was was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the third round of the 2011 NFL draft. He spent four seasons with Dallas before playing with the Eagles and Titans respectively in his final three seasons.
As an NFL running back, Murray totaled 7,174 rushing yards and 49 rushing touchdowns. In doing that, he earned himself three Pro-Bowl selections as well a First-Team All-Pro Honor.
Most recently, Murray served as the running backs coach for the University in Arizona in 2019. In turn, he has some experience under his belt as he joins Riley’s staff. Murray expressed his gratitude towards the opportunity after the hiring.
“This is surreal,” Murray explained, “Obviously I never thought I’d be back coaching at the place where it all started for me […] I’m thankful for the opportunity Coach Riley is giving me and I’m looking forward to being back home.”
